Thursday, June 14
Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the United States flag by the Second Continental Congress in 1777. In 1916 President Woodrow Wilson officially established June 14 as Flag Day. It is not an official Federal holiday, however.
According to Wikipedia, perhaps the oldest continuing Flag Day parade is held at Fairfield, Washington. Beginning in 1909 or 1910, Fairfield has held a parade every year, with the possible exception of 1918.

And now we know the rest of the story. Not only do I love to read--and read--and read, Karen (daughter) and I are surrounded by books everyday. Books give us so much pleasure, both as a livelihood and as recreation. We are so fortunate to have been nourished by my Mom.
Saturday, June 9 is Mom's 89th birthday. Please join me in wishing her the happiest of birthdays. We love you, Mom!
Happy reading--Gayle |
