 BOOK WATCH...

Our News from the Book Industry

Authors are jumping...literally...from adult to young adult fiction and back again.  And they are doing it with grand success.  But then again, we saw the Harry Potter series and the Twilight series span the generations, so why not purposely go after that audience?  Here's some of the news:

J K ROWLING   From BookBrowser.com (2/23/2012):  Little, Brown has world English rights to the first novel for adults by JK Rowling, the company announced Thursday morning. All details, including title, publication date and topic will be announced later this year.

In the release, Rowling says, "Although I've enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the Harry Potter series,"

SUZANNE COLLINS   AARP Magazine (2-3/2012) headlines "Teen Lit You Gotta Read" and reviews "The Hunger Games" as a book that mesmerizes kids and adults (and has a movie coming out March 23).  We have new copies of this book on sale for 25% off!

JAMES PATTERSON gets in the game with four young adult fantasy series:  Middle School, Maximum Ride, Daniel X and Witch and Wizard.

Some other authors who write for young adults as well as adults are RIDLEY PEARSON (with DAVE BARRY), CARL HIAASEN and RICK RIORDAN.

We know we have only touched on a very few of the young adult authors our customers enjoy, so please let us know your favorites!

We have several of these authors in stock.  Check them out!

THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNET'S NEST

At long last Stieg Larsson's complete trilogy (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest) is available in PAPERBACK!

We have new copies of all three of these books on sale in our store for 25% OFF the retail price!  These are new copies so store credits and other discounts do not apply.  Stop by the store soon to pick up your copies.

NEW AUTHOR--NEW BOOK!

LITTLE CHANGES by Kristi MarshLittle Changes

This is not a book of fiction.  This is a humorous and instructive book from a young mother who fought an early diagnosis of cancer and, in the process, became an advocate for chemical free foods and safe health-care products.  Little Changes is a serious subject written with a light touch.

Kristi Marsh

Kristi, mother of three children and wife to one husband, also conducts workshops, testifies at Congressional hearings and leads discussion groups.  She is the founder of www.ChooseWiser.com and was recognized as one of Prevention Magazine's Picture of Health finalists.

Kristi is also Gayle's god-daughter and we are all very proud of Kristi and grateful she has survived cancer!  However, we can definitely recommend this book on its own merit.  Don't take our word for it, though.  Here are some of what others are saying about this book:

"Little Changes is a gripping hybrid; an engrossing memoir woven with shocking current events.  It's not a 'how-to book, it's a 'can-do book."           ---Megan Rose, Public Relations Executive and mother of four

"It's about time we look within and become advocates for our own health."

                    ---Pam Young, founder of www.InnerKiddies.com

"The discussion, questions, and emotions spurred from Little Changes will have your book club pulling an all-nighter."       --- Michelle Fitzgerald

WE HAVE COPIES OF THIS BOOK IN OUR STORE at 25% OFF!  Call to reserve your copy or stop by the store soon.

If you want to know more about Kristi, Little Changes and/or chemical-free living, check out Kristi's website www.ChooseWiser.com

     The Rest of the Story...

When Karen and I started on this journey of bookstore ownership we didn't think ahead 10 years!  I don't think we even thought ahead 10 days!!  I was working full time and Karen took over the major day-to-day running of the store.  It wasn't until 2004 that I came on board the bookstore as an equal partner.
Bookstores don't look like much work, but we learned quickly just how much work was involved.  We move over 6000 books a month.  To give you some idea of that magnitude, there are about 30 books in a paper grocery sack!
Our bookstore is a happy place for us.  We see so many different and interesting books that it is never boring.  And we meet so many new people that our world is continually expanding.  We hear about your travels, your troubles and your joys.
Please mark your calendar to join us on April 14 to help us celebrate us, you and books!  It will be a great day!
                                                              Happy Reading,  Gayle
