August 2011

 clown on cycle 2Greetings!

Just a reminder:  Our SUMMER HOURS have changed.
Summer only, we have reduced our open hours on Wednesdays from 9-7 to 10-6 (through July and August).  We will continue to be closed on Sundays.

PARKING:
We have been watching!  The parking lot does get full at times, but just as we suspected, the turn-over is very prompt.  Customers are reporting they rarely have to wait for a spot.

GOOD NEWS!  We have a special "15 Minute" parking space right in front of our door! Great for a quick run-in and also to unload and reload your books.  And more GOOD NEWS!  If you shop in the morning before noon or after 3 in the afternoon, we have LOTS OF PARKING!

Please let us know if you become frustrated by the parking.  We want you to have a good shopping experience when you shop with us!

See you soon!

Our news from the book industry

Why did BORDERS fail while BARNES & NOBLE didn't?
Analysts say that Borders made a fatal alliance with Amazon, moved heavily into DVD's and CD's just as that industry was going digital, didn't jump on the eBook band-wagon soon enough and built too many stores.  Barnes and Noble, on the other hand, maintained control of their on-line sales, invented the Nook and refrained from building too many stores. To read more, go to NPR's website.

HARRY POTTER MAGIC
Last month we told you Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books, had squeezed out the ebook distributors.  We are hearing rumors that it won't happen as neatly as she planned.  We don't know exactly what's happening, but we will keep an eye on it.   HOW ebooks get distributed will influence much of our future access to books.

Thanks for your positive comments about this section.  We will keep adding to it as long as we have news!

     The Rest of the Story...

Website update:  We are still working on our website and expect to have it 'live' soon.

.  It's wonderful, but it sure takes a long time to resolve the details.   We will send an announcement as soon as it is 'live' so you can let us know what you think.

We need you!   You make a difference!  We have a good customer base of very loyal customers, and sometimes I wonder if you, yes you, know how special and important you are to us.  We appreciate all that you do to keep us in business, from telling others about us, bringing us books to sell and buying your books from us.

Reading about Borders closures makes us sit up and take notice.  Somehow they made bad decisions.  We don't want to do that.

Three Questions:  Next week you will be asked to respond to three questions about our store.  We hope you will take a few minutes to respond.  We need your ideas, your good thinking and your opinions.

What am I reading?  I just finished "The Hangman's Daughter", a historical novel set in 1659, written by German author Oliver Potzsch and translated by  Lee Chadeayne.  If you love to learn details about how people lived, what they believed and especially about the role of the executioner,  this is a good read.  I found it fascinating!  And the plot twists are unusual and surprising. Happy Reading!
