 Greetings!

              bird
Don't you just love summer?  There is such a buzz of happy anticipation of long days and maybe even a little more leisure for working in the garden, seeing friends, getting together with families, taking vacation and reading a good book.

 NEW HOURS:
Summer only, we have reduced our open hours on Wednesdays from 9-7 to 10-6 (through July and August).  We will continue to be closed on Sundays.

ROSS OPENING:
WE PROMISED WE WOULD LET YOU KNOW...ROSS will have their Grand Opening Saturday, July 16.

PARKING:
Many of you are asking about our parking.  GOOD NEWS!  We will have a special "15 Minute" space right in front of our door! Great for a quick run-in and also to unload and reload your books.

We are expecting to see the parking lot full, of course, but we also expect there to be frequent movement.  You should be able to easily find parking for our store.  Please let us know if you become frustrated by the parking.  We want you to have a good shopping experience when you shop with us!

See you soon!

 POTTERMORE
Britain's billionair author, J. K. Rowling, will launch her interactive website POTTERMORE and offer Harry Potter e-books directly from her site.  In one fell swoop, Rowling has cut both her publishers and booksellers out of the e-book picture. Stay tuned for reactions and results.  The site will be launched in October after a test market run.

JENNIFER EGAN
Winner of the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for "A Visit from the Goon Squad", Jennifer Egan has also won the 2010 National Book Critics Award and is currently on the short list for the coveted Orange Award.  The big news seems to be that she is winning over Jonathan Franzen's "Freedom".  You can hear an interview with Jennifer Egan by clicking here

Thanks for your positive comments about this section.  We will keep adding to it as long as we have news!

     The Rest of the Story...

Recently I was asked to make some recommendations for book club reading.

It was great fun to choose some of my favorites.  Here are three I know you will enjoy:

   1.   Fire in the Blood by Irene Nemirovsky.  Living in France during WWII, Nemirovsky was a popular writer.  This novel, along with Suite Francaise, was smuggled out of France after Nemirovsky's death at Auschwitz in 1942.  This story weaves the lives of three people over two decades of lies and deceit.

  2.  Beachcombing at Miramar by Richard Bode.  After divorcing his wife, Bode moves to Miramar, CA where he perfects the art of beachcombing for treasures both seen and unseen.  His thoughtful prose transports the reader to the beach and his insights are inspirational .

    3.   A Long Trek Home:  4,000 Miles By Boot, Raft And Ski by Erin McKittrick.  In June, 2007, Erin McKittrick and her husband, Hig, left Seattle for the Aleutian Island, traveling solely by human power.  This is Erin's story simply told and 100% consuming.  I wanted more.  For an interesting review and pictures click here.

We are working on our website and expect to have it 'live' by the end of July.  We will send an announcement so you can have a look.  We are so pleased with how it is evolving.  Not only will it help new customers become acquainted with us, it will also be a 'go to' resource for you, our loyal customer.

Happy Reading!

Gayle
