New Interns at Page 2 BOOKS You will see two new faces at our store. Lorena Lemus and Brittannee Forgie are earning high school credit toward their graduation next spring by working with us 5 hours a week, learning the book business and how to run a small, independently owned retail business. The Rest of the Story...
More often than I think, businesses are doing really spectacular things for no other reason than because they want to.
On Thanksgiving Day, Debra George and Chris Mark, owners of Mark Restaurant in Burien, invited ANYONE to join them for a FREE Thanksgiving dinner. The catch: you had to bring a side dish to share. I talked to Debra after the event and she said they had over 250 people for dinner. She said she always loved big holiday dinners. I guess so! I recently picked up a book published by Harlequin (think ROMANCE!) and was curious by the 'different' introduction. "What is this?" I said to myself. On closer scrutiny, I discovered Harlequin had founded a program called "More Than Words". The book I held in my hand contained stories about real women who have created extraordinary services for other women and children. The book also contained stories written by well-known authors inspired by those good works. The proceeds, it said on the back of my book, are reinvested into the program to support the causes that are of concern to women. Way to go, Harlequin! I got to thinking about Harlequin and the other good things they do. One of those is to provide an entry for aspiring authors, giving unknowns a chance to be published. Many of our favorite authors started with them: Nora Roberts, Lori Foster, Jayne Anne Krentz. Harlequin usually publishes the unknown author with two or three other better known authors in one volume. I am particularly fond of these books because I am introduced to new authors and because I can finish a story in a lunch or two! We have a very good selection of these books. Please ask for our ANTHOLOGY section.
And, way to go, Page 2 BOOKS customers! We thank you, thank you for all the caring and good works you do for your community. Our Foodbank donations are evidence of your generosity.
