Wikipedia Jean Auel was born in Chicago in 1934. She now lives in Portland, OR. Auel published the first in this series,
The Clan of the Cave Bear, in 1990. It is reported that after the wild success of this book, Crown Publishing paid Auel $25 million for the rights to publish the next two books. Check out Wikipedia for more interesting information on how Auel researches her books and why it takes so long!
