Doris Wants to Say 'Thank You'!
On one of our hottest days in July, Doris was shopping in our store and planning to walk back to the Transit Station. Overhearing Doris' plan, another customer offered her a ride.
Doris wants to say thank you to this kind lady, but unfortunately has forgotten her name. If you are that person, please stop by the store. Doris has hand-crafted a very special gift for you. |

LOCAL ART EXHIBIT at Page 2 BOOKS

Each quarter, like clockwork, our local arts group, Artists United, sends three fabulous artists our way. We are treated to acrylics, watercolors, photography and oils. Many of the 105 member artists are award winners. Some have had their work appear as front page art for local magazines. Our artists are amazing.
Did you know that each work of framed and ready-to-hang art is for sale? This is your chance to acquire beautiful original art for your home and support our locals.
Our current exhibit features watercolors by Al Matsumoto and Don Zimmerman and photographs by Tom Parker. Be sure to save some time to browse. We know you will enjoy. |

The Rest of the Story...
"The World is a book and those who do not travel read only a page." St. Augustine (354-430 ad)
Recently my Mom and I drove to Vancouver, BC to visit the Vancouver Art Gallery. We saw two spectacular exhibits: "The Modern Woman", an exhibit from the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, and "In Dialogue with Emily Carr".
We also ran smack-dab into this quote from St. Augustine. I am replacing my favorite quote by Erasmus (1466-1536) "When I get a little money I buy books and if any is left I buy food and clothes." with St. Augustine's. It explains a lot about me.
And off I go again. This time to Australia and New Zealand. I am joining a life-long friend for a tour of the Great Barrier Reef, Sydney, Christchurch and Queenstown.
Since I have never been to Australia, I have been reading Bill Bryson's "In A Sunburned Country". Also, I have been intrigued by the pictures on New Zealand and Australian dollars. Thanks to my computer, I was able to learn about Banjo Paterson, Dame Mary Gilmore and Henry Parkes. A quick history lesson before I go. Their money honors suffragettes, social activists and poets.
To read is to travel the world and to travel is to read the world. I love to do both!
See you soon.
Gayle
