April 2010
 Greetings!

Today, April 3 we celebrate 8 years with Page 2 BOOKS.  Most of you know that this store was started in 1989.  We are the fourth owners and, thanks to all of you, have been here the longest and seen the most growth.

In 2006 we added the Birthday Club which grew to over 1000 members.  As you can imagine, we were very grateful last year to find Constant Contact, an email version of our Birthday Club that allows us to continue to send Newsletters economically.

In 2008 we remodeled the store, adding 30% more shelf space.  We have increased our stock to include more of everything.  Our favorite response is "Yes, we have that book!"

In 2009 we special ordered over 75 books.  This, along with our Wishlist helps us get your book into your hands.

It's not the easiest time to be in the retail business.  You all know that.  Thanks to all of you, we continue to thrive, and with your support, will be here at least another 8 years!

Look for a special celebration of our anniversary sometime in May.

Gayle's Mom Sylvia
Sylvia Mothers Day 2009

I remember this ...

With five children to feed, and living in the Spokane Valley which was abundant with fresh fruit, Mom (pictured left) canned all summer.  She would get us up before first light to pick strawberries in the early morning when everything was still wet with dew.  We, along with neighbors, would pile into cars and head for the u-pick strawberry fields intent on picking several flats of strawberries. Just as the sun would start to beat on our backs, we would be finished!  At home, Mom would put us to work:  sort, clean, cut and sieve.  Magically jars of jam would appear in our cellar.  Pears and peaches were easier, because we bought those in flats.  But the system was the same.  By the end of summer our cellar would be lined with jams and jellies, cherries, applesauce, pears, peaches and tomatoes.  My favorite were the pears because Mom would color them green, yellow, blue, pink and white.  My!  They made a pretty site.  Thanks, Mom, for feeding us with such warm and happy memories. - Gayle

GayleThe Rest of the Story...

This is a vacation month for me and I am off to London again.  This time, traveling with my sister.  We plan to join a friend there for a trip to the Arundel Castle.  The Duke in residence has just opened to the public his personal library of over 10,000 books.  YUM!

I've been reading Rick Steves' travel guide LONDON 2010  and picking up all sorts of tips. If you haven't seen him on TV or read his travel books, you might want to check out his website for fun.  When I 'm not planning my own trip, I enjoy just browsing his site for interesting comments about travel to places I probably will never go.  I believe the term is 'armchair traveler'. By the way, Rick Steves is homegrown: he's from Edmonds and has his travel center there.

We also have a grand selection of travel reading books.  While I am gone, check them out!
See you soon!
