Thank you to all who stopped by to wish me a Happy 65th Birthday. What a special day!
My husband and I attended our local BOOKFEST in Columbia City last month. It was a joy to see publishers, authors, writers and booklovers all gathered under one roof. I hope they can keep it growing. Thanks to the Seattle City Schools for donating the space.
One of the sessions we attended was a visit with MARY DAHEIM and MIKE LAWSON, both local authors. Mary is the creator/author of the "Bed and Breakfast" and "Alpine" murder mysteries. When asked where she got her inspiration, she said she patterns her characters after people she knows, and when she gets stuck, she follows her husband's advice and goes to the garage, where they keep all their other junk!
Mike Lawson is author of a conspiracy series set in Washington D.C. He's been writing since 2005 and has published 4 novels. Watch for him. We think he will hit it big.
The hot topic of the day was the changing publishing scene. We are definitely in the middle of transformation. Think printing press! What I noticed were all the small specialty publishers. Just as we are creating more books for electronic access, I am seeing an increase in publishers and authors creating specialty books: handmade binding, original art, family history, etc. An interesting and exciting outcome.
As we move toward Thanksgiving, thank you again for all you do. Your thoughtfulness and decision to support us in all sorts of ways never ceases to amaze me. Together we make this giant recycling event work! Have a wonderful holiday! Gayle
