Policy Reminder Regarding MASH
Students are responsible for honoring their commitment and following through with their MASH assignment. Any student who fails to report to their assigned MASH will receive a new MASH session equal to the session they missed. This policy of double MASH for a no-show is designed to emphasize a sense of responsibility to students. We do not offer any exceptions to this rule unless a parent contacts the office in advance of the MASH session to reschedule. MASH will always be concluded by 4:40PM, so if your student's MASH session exceeds this time frame, the remainder of the time will roll over to the following day. Please be diligent about reviewing and discussing your student's MASH card with him/her daily as it provides the date and time frame that a MASH session must be served, as well as the teacher who assigned the MASH. It can be a valuable tool that assists you in monitoring your student's progress with assignments, preparedness, and punctuality.
Telephone Calls / Messages / Deliveries
It is our goal to support our students while encouraging responsibility. We understand that occasionally a student might forget their homework assignments, P.E. clothes, lunch, etc. However, to maximize our students' class time and to respect our teachers' instructional time, we ask that any item(s) delivered to the office be picked up by your student in between classes, lunchtime, or after school. Thank you for your assistance in communicating this to your student.
Proposition 39 letter and Meaningful Interest Form
On Monday, December 6th, each student was given a letter to inform parents that under California law (i.e., Proposition 39) the Rocklin Unified School District must provide the Rocklin Academy Charter Schools, including Western Sierra, reasonably equivalent school facilities in which to operate. We ask that you please take a look at this form and submit to us your interest in re-enrolling your child in Western Sierra Collegiate Academy's classroom-based program during the 2011-12 school year. Please sign and return this form by Tuesday, December 14th. If a copy of this form did not make it home with your student, please click here to download, print, sign and return. |

Lunch Orders for the First Week in January
While ordering for December is now closed, you may still submit your lunch order for the first week of January. On the website, under Students, Food Menu, please click the small arrow after December, and you will find January's food menu. Here, you will have access to the first week in January so that your student may enjoy hot lunch the first week we return from break. If you are interested in purchasing lunch for your student for the first week in January, you must turn your menu and money in before we leave for Winter Break so that we are able to advise our lunch vendors in advance. Thank you! If you have any questions regarding the lunch menus, please contact the PSP at wscapsp@rocklinacademy.org .

Changes to the SCRIP Program Make it Easier!
SCRIP: New Look!! New Format!! Now even Easier!!
Order Gift cards for the HOLIDAYS!
Beginning last week, we made changes to the SCRIP program. You can simply email the form directly to Virginia Low, the SCRIP coordinator, at ohiolows@aol.com, then send in a check in an envelope labeled "SCRIP" with your student and including your family name, to be dropped off at the office.
Once Virginia has received your check, your order will be filled and returned (sealed) to you via your student. (If you prefer picking up your order from the office, that is still an option noted on the order forms). Viriginia will send email notification so that you know when to expect your student to deliver your cards.
Typically, the QUICK orders received Monday will be returned to you by Friday and the GREAT LAKES orders received Monday will be returned by the following Monday.
Please take a moment to review the forms, because MANY vendors have been added to the GREAT LAKES form. If you have a specific store you would like to order SCRIP from, just ask and, if it is available, Virginia will include it, too!
We hope to let you know through the weekly email newsletter how much we are earning for our school!

Donation Requests -- Will you help...? |

Snack Donations for December
If your student has either Mr. Peņa or Mr. Odell for their 1st period class, it is your month to donate to the snack bar if possible. The students enjoy Sun Chips, beef jerky, corn nuts, and other healthier types of snacks. Thank you in advance for your generosity and contributions!
Bean Bag Chairs for Academic Lab
As part of our efforts to encourage Junior High students to find a quiet place to complete their academics and to properly use the academic lab time frame, we are requesting donations of bean bag chairs from Western Sierra families. If you have a gently used or new bean bag chair that you are willing to donate to our school, please contact the school office. We are excited at the opportunity to offer students a unique area in which they may be comfortable while studying and we appreciate your partnership in making this happen!
