The "Inside Track" on Rail to Loudoun
Yesterday was a major day for Rail to Loudoun - the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) voted to remove the mandatory Project Labor Agreement (PLA) language from the construction for Phase 2. Mark Ingrao, our President and CEO, was quoted in a Washington Post article on this decision. MWAA and Loudoun County still need to vote to approve Phase 2 by July 4. We were proud to be featured on a Washington Post Metro cover story on how the Silver Line is spurring re-development in Reston. Amidst the debate over Phase 2, reporter Freddy Kunkle did an excellent job of highlighting how the presence of rail in Reston is already having a major impact on area business growth. A record number of advocates attended and spoke at a Loudoun County Board of Supervisors meeting on June 3 - read all about it in the Washington Post. We encourage all Chamber and community members to continue advocating for the completion of Phase 2 by signing the petition and contacting your local supervisor - resources and details are available through Loudoun Rail Now.

Help Us End Hunger in Virginia - Participate in the Governor's Bowl Food Drive Despite being the second-highest income county in the U.S., did you know that nearly 25% of all children in Fairfax County schools qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch? We are participating in the first Governor's Bowl Chamber of Commerce Challenge Food Drive - a food drive competition among select Virginia chambers of commerce and their member businesses. Between now and July 4, we need your help collecting non-perishable food donations. The food we collect will be given to the Capital Area Food Bank which will distribute to local nonprofits including Reston Interfaith. There are three ways you and your company can support this important initiative:
1. Drop non-perishable food off here at the Chamber;
2. Collect food at your office (we have a food drive tool kit and large boxes to help you out!); or
3. Bring food to Taste of Reston - for the first time ever we will be collecting food donations at the event. Get your business involved today - together we can make a positive difference in our community! >>Learn more and sign up now
