Message From the Executive Director

Page-Lake Powell Greetings!

We want to thank everyone for attending the April mixer sponsored by Coconino County at the Courtyard by Marriott. We broke records for this event with 111 people attending. It was a pleasure meeting all the elected officials and staff.  Supervisor Lena Fowler really knows how to draw a crowd.
The Page/Lake Powell Cruisin' Show is May 6th & 7th. We still have limited availability for vendors and participants. Visit our website for more information. www.pagelakepowellcruisin.com
The May Mixer is at the Point on Friday, May 6th, to welcome the participants for the Page/Lake Powell Cruisin' 2011. Join us for the cruise at 5:30 from the Courtyard by Marriott to the Point. The show kicks off at 9:00 am in the park on Saturday. Bring the family to see these classics and modern machines. Vendors this year include AECO (Greek food), Montana Bar-B-Q, Pizza Hut, Snowies, Nifty 50s Shop, Graphic Edge, Tasty Nuts & Kettle Corn, CCC, Faith Bible Chapel, and the Boy Scout Troop 1687. The Boy Scouts will conduct the flag ceremony at 9:00 am to kick off the show.
JC Hackett is here again playing oldies for the crowds on Friday and Saturday. Get ready for the hula hoop contest...
There are other events this month for the family: Jazz for Peace on May 29th, Glen Canyon Natural History Association lecture series on May 25th, the Therizinosaur exhibit at the Carl Hayden Visitors Center, and more...

Have a great month and we'll see you around.

 Small Business Administration in Page

Which Hat Do I Wear?

Most small-business owners perform all aspects of their business operations from

time to time, and in some cases all of the time.

This means a small-business owner must wear many hats.

Some of these hats are marketing, accounting, financing, management, human resources,

etc. Small-business owners must learn to assess what they do well, what they are deficient

in and how much it would cost to hire an expert to fulfill the deficient areas.

This is all done to grow the business to meet demand and to remain profitable.

Take sales, for example. Let's assume the business owner is an expert in selling the

company's products, but is not very efficient at installing the products sold in the customer's

homes and buildings. The business owner could, in this case, focus on selling and hire

employees to install them.

Expanding on teh above example, let's assume the business owner has worked previously

for an accounting firm. This owner could save money by keeping the books him/herself.

To help you decide what to do, create a cost-benefit analysis and calculate how much it

would cost to hire an expert - whether that expert manages the books or installs the

products.

Does the cost of hiring an expert outweigh the dollar amount you would make by focusing

on what you do best? This cost-benefit analysis can be applied to almost all decisions in

business.

To discuss these areas of your business, contact Jim Hunter at the Coconino Community

College Small Business Development Center: 928-645-6687 or jim.hunter@coconino.edu
