Message From the Executive Director

Page-Lake Powell Greetings!

Yes it is March. The traffic in Page has increased over the past few weeks. The Page/LP Campground is full, and the tour companies are busy. This is a good sign.

I am happy to welcome our newest members to the Chamber: Guy Robertson's Marine Services and Lake Powell Mobile Home Village.

We had a large number of ballots turned in for the Best of Page. The Winners will be announced at the Annual Banquet on March 27.  We will have tickets available this week. Our donations for the auction are pouring in. We are very grateful to our business partners. I will send out "teasers" in our Weekly Page.

The nomination forms for the Humanitarian/Volunteer of the Year will be sent this week in a separate e-mail.

Along with the annual banquet, we are working on the  Page/Lake Powell Cruisin Car Show, a Wine and Jazz dinner, a music festival, and much more. If you would like to enter the car show, or be a vendor or sponsor, all applications are on our website.

Please join us on March 4th at The Page Hospital for the monthly mixer.

Have a great month,

CC Cobb

Do You Have a Business Plan?

It has been gratifying to meet with so many people who want to start a business here in Page.  The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well.  Most of the folks I meet with have a pretty clear idea of what they want to do.  They do not, however, have it in any kind of meaningful written format.  They don't have a business plan that would adequately communicate to an outside observer the steps that they intend to take to bring their idea to fruition.
What about those of us already in business?  Have we outgrown the need for a business plan?  The answer to that is a loud "No!"  I tell everyone that a business plan is a living document.  It develops and changes as your business changes from within and new business conditions are imposed from without.  A business plan is a wonderful tool for anyone who is in business - a tool that they can use to continually test themselves against earlier assumptions.   A review of your business plan will cause you to ask yourself some great questions about where you want to go next and how you want to get there.
As an exciting side benefit, the review and update process usually stimulates some ideas that you didn't have last year or the year before.  You may come up with the next big thing, just by having a periodic "conversation" with your own business plan.  The SBDC does a lot of "well-business checks".  We'd be happy to serve as a sounding board for your business thoughts and we're also here to help you evaluate and update your business plan - no matter how successful you've already been.  So drag out your original documents, clear away the cob webs, and maybe open up a whole new venture you didn't realize you had in you.
