| Greetings!
This month marks the second anniversary of the opening of Mint Hill Arts Fine Arts and Crafts Center. We have undergone such dramatic changes since then, and we thank our members and the community for the role you have played. If you haven't been by the gallery in a while, now's a great time to stop by and see what we've been up to. There are lots of special events coming up this fall, and a whole new year of exhibits, presentations and classes to look forward to. Read on for details, and thank you for your interest in Mint Hill Arts....because Art Matters.

September Gallery Exhibit
Monochromatics A member show in single shades
Opening Reception Friday, September 11 7:00-9:00 pm Exhibit runs through October 2 |
|
The summer may be winding down but the excitement at Mint Hill Arts is not. Our September exhibit will feature works of art using a monochromatic palette. Monochromism is a painting, drawing, or other work of art utilizing a single color or various shades of the same color.
For examples from art history check
out Bridget Riley's Pop/Op Art painting, "Movement In Squares" or Franz
Kline's "Ballantine." Also, Louise Nevelson and Aubrey Beardsley spent
almost, if not all of their careers following a monochromatic doctrine.
Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollock dedicated periods and series of work
to the use of one color.
It will be fun to see how the creative Mint Hill Arts' members will rise to this challenge. Please join Mint Hill Arts for this innovative exhibit.
"Our gallery is your gallery."

September Guest Speaker John Lomax Tuesday September 22, 7:00-9:00 pm |
September's presentation will be a watercolor demonstration by Charlotte artist John Lomax. Mr. Lomax grew up in Charlotte, NC and graduated
from UNC-Chapel Hill. He worked in the ceramic tile industry as a
commercial contractor and after selling his business he started
painting watercolors and became active in several regional art
associations. He has studied with many well known artists and teachers
and is a signature member of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina.
Many of his paintings are scenes from his travels both here and abroad.
He especially likes to paint boats, and landscapes, and has found that
people's faces and everyday scenes provide interesting subjects. The
strong contrast of values, light and shadow are evident in many of his
paintings. Lomax also paints with acrylics and teaches watercolor
classes and workshops.
