Message from the director

Last month we hosted an awards reception at Urban Edge in honor of Volunteer Appreciation Week. Annually our volunteers put in more than 10,000 hours of work. They serve for many different reasons-some just because they love the library. Others serve because they want to help someone else achieve a literacy goal, such as being able to read a story to a grandchild or get a better job. Others help out because it's required by a scout troop, school or church, or because the court ordered them to do it. Volunteers have done everything from mend books to pull weeds to play Dumbledore in our series of Harry Potter programs. In this make-every-dime-count economy, I can't say thank you enough to all of our generous volunteers for devoting their time and energy to the Waukegan Public Library.
