Message from the director

Summer is slipping away and fall is right around the corner.  With all the wind and thunderstorms we've suffered through in the last 90 days, the library never lost power and fulfilled its role as a community cooling center.  Thanks to ComEd for providing bottled water and sandwiches for our patrons.

Now the kids are heading back to school, and coming here instead for homework help or a quiet place to study. I'd like to extend that invitation to all Gurnee families wondering where they'll go while their library closes during September and October. Please come visit us!  We accept any Illinois public library card, and proudly offer one of the largest collections of books in Lake County.

Bus to Us!

bus to us in lake michigan exhibitThe new Under the Sea Exhibit in the Children's Department, generously sponsored by North Shore Gas, is making waves. The exhibit offers so many learning opportunities that the library began offering free field trips to District 60 classes to explore the displays.  Starting back up in September, we welcome our first busload of fall semester 3-6th graders, as part of the new Bus to Us! program.  The program will continue with free field trips until the exhibits close in November.  Bus to Us! is generously sponsored by the Harold M and Adeline S. Morrison Foundation.  Request more information on Bus to Us!
