New Parking Rules--
Effective immediately, patrons get two hours of free parking in the garage located at the corner of County and Clayton.  Show your library card at the Customer Service Desk and get your parking pass validated.

 

Friends Book Donations--
Book donations are now being accepted.  Leave donations at back door or in drop box located in Friends' Book Sale Area.

Celebrate May and celebrate Spring, at the Library!

United Way Early Learning Club - Preschool Program 

Tuesday, May 3 and 10, 6-7:30 p.m.

Sunday, May 15 and 22, 1:30-3 p.m.

Bradbury Room

This program is for children 3, 4, or 5 years of age and their caregivers. Children will work on early learning skills such as letter recognition and counting.  This program is limited to 20 families.   Please register.

Early Learning Center Camps - Preschool Program

Various days and time; mornings and evenings
Early Learning Center
Recommended for ages 3-5.  Each session is limited to 15 children and their caregiver.  Mini Musicians, Marvelous Mathmeticians, Superhero Crafts, Summertime Games and Crafts.  English and Bilingual.  See calendar for more info and to register. 

Drop-in Spanish Storytime - Preschool Program 

Tuesdays, 6:45-7:15 p.m.

Sundays, 3-3:30 p.m.

Early Learning Center 

Children and their parents/caregivers will participate in an interactive Spanish storytime and will create a craft project after the storytime. Recommended for children ages 3-5.  No registration required.

Got Science? - Youth Program

Monday, May 2, 5-6 p.m.

Got Science? returns with all-new experiments that you can do at home! Grades 3-5.  Register here.

Game Time - Youth Program 

Monday, May 9, 4-6 p.m.

Bradbury Room

Life isn't always fun and games, but for these two hours it will be. Come alone or with friends! Grades 3 to 5.  Registration not required. 

 

Sensational Sixes and Sevens - Youth Program 

Monday, May 9 and 16, 7:15-7:45 p.m.
Early Learning Center
Children will play a variety of hands-on under the sea games.  Grades K-2.  Each camp session is limited to 15 children and their caregivers.  Please register.

Write Away! - Youth Program 

Monday, May 23, 5-6 p.m.

Bradbury Room

Practice the art of writing and telling stories that will keep your audience hanging on each word.  Registration not required. 

 

Keyboard Class - Youth/Teen Program

Saturdays in May, 1:30-3 p.m.

Computer Learning Center (Main Floor)

This fun class is for children in grades 5-7 who want to learn computer keyboarding skills. The class begins on Saturday, May 7 and ends on Saturday, May 28.   Please register. 

Harry Potter Celebration - Youth/Teen Program

Saturday, May 21, 1-3 p.m.

Wizards are coming to whisk you off to Number 12 Grimmauld Place, headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix! Practice your defense against the Dark Arts with activities, trivia, and a reading from Order Leader, Albus Dumbledore. All ages welcome.  Please register.

This summer, immerse yourself in thrilling tales of drama, suspense and adventure, and win thrilling prizes! Ask a librarian for details on our new Summer Reading Club.  For readers of every age.

  

Rave Nation: 3rd Annual Guitar Hero Tournament - Teen Program  

Wednesday, May 11, 4-8 p.m.

As if you need any extra incentive to rock out! But here it is anyway: Four Guitar Hero winners will each take home a $60 gift card to Toys R Us.   Registration ends May 4!  Contestants must show their middle school I.D.

New computer classes begin the week of May 2.  Classes in Spanish offered on Saturday mornings.  Classes in English offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.  Please check calendar for class details.  Please register for these classes two weeks in advance.

Tutor Training - Adult Program

Orientation Session, Wednesday, May 25, 7-8:30 p.m. 
College of Lake County Grayslake Campus
Learn to be a tutor.  The literacy program matches volunteer literacy tutors with adults who want to improve their basic skills in reading, writing, math or speaking English. Feeling at the top of her game when she is suddenly diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's disease, Harvard psychologist Alice Howland struggles to find meaning and purpose in her life as her concept of self gradually slips away.  

The Waukegan Public Library has served the community of Waukegan for more than 112 years providing opportunities to learn, gather, be informed and entertained.  The library houses one of the largest collections of materials in Lake County.  Patrons get two hours of free parking in the garage located at the corner of County and Clayton Streets with a validated parking pass and a library card.
