Come learn the essential pre-reading skills your child needs to become a lifelong reader. This program is recommended for parents of 3, 4, and 5 year-olds. Parents and children attend together.  Spanish translation available.  January 18: Vocabulary, Narrative Skills, and Print Motivation.  January 25: Print Awareness, Letter Knowledge and Phonological Awareness.  Register here.

Dive into an ocean of reading and join the Under the Sea reading club!  Complete each level for prizes and enter in for the Grand Prize drawing.  Entry form and more info available in Children's Department.  For all ages.

Tutor Orientation Session - Adult Program

This orientation session will give you an overview of how our literacy tutor program works.  Tutors must attend 5 sessions of tutor training and usually involves a commitment of about 3 hours per week. The literacy program matches volunteer literacy tutors with adults who want to improve their basic skills in reading, writing, math or speaking English. Families Learning Together - Family Program family literacy
Class starts January 18, 2011

16 weeks of learning and fun for adults and their children, age 1 month to 6 years.  Parents, improve your reading, writing and math or earn your GED.  Class is taught by College of Lake County Instructor.  Children are introduced to letters, colors, numbers, etc., through books, games and music.  Children must attend with parents.  Parent can not have a high school diploma or GED.  No Cost! English only. For more information call 847-623-2041, ext 223. Required placement testing and registration on Thursday, January 13, 2011, at 12:30 in WPL's Literacy Suite.

The Waukegan Public Library has served the community of Waukegan for more than 112 years providing opportunities to learn, gather, be informed and entertained.  The library houses one of the largest collections of materials in Lake County.  Free parking for two hours is provided at the downtown branch in the City of Waukegan's parking garage located at the corner of County and Clayton Streets.
