Summer Working Hours & Holidays

It's that time of year again and we're giving our customers tons of advance notice regarding summer hours and holidays!
Being an online store, you can visit us and order from us 365 days of the year, 24 hours a day. If  you'd like to reach us you can either phone us or email us.
Our summer hours are:
Monday - Thursday: 8:30am-3:30pm MST Fridays: 8:30am - 1pm MST Week-ends: Closed
Holidays
We will also be closed for holidays August 17th - September 3rd, 2012. Re-opening September 4th.
Last day to get orders shipped out will be August 16th, if received by 10am MST.
You can certainly order while we are on holidays but your order will not ship out until September 4th. If you have a question for us, email is best as voicemail gets full fast! Please note that due to larger volumes of emails in our inbox during office closures, it may take us a day or two to reply back to you. |

Coconut Oil to Treat Acne (and other skin problems)

The American Academy of Dermatology (ADD) reports that between 40 million and 50 million people suffer from acne. Anyone may suffer from acne, though often, teenagers are the most commonly affected. You can use coconut oil to help treat you acne naturally and clear it up fast!
Acne: Causes and Symptoms
 Acne is caused when the pores in the skin become blocked. The result is a pore that may be flat or raised and at times, can also be quite painful. Most often acne appears on the face, though it can form on other areas of the body.
Often acne will go away on it's own though there are times the pores can become infected and result in permanent scaring. It's important to keep your skin clean and help the acne clear up.
You can use a variety of home remedies to help clear up your acne quicker, including coconut oil which not only helps clear up the acne, it will make your skin smell and feel great too!
How Coconut Oil Can Help Treat Acne Naturally
Coconut oil is truly amazing! It has so many uses, both internal and external. It is widely known for it's anti microbial properties. When applied to your skin the coconut oil will kill any infection and the result is no acne! You can apply coconut oil a couple of times a day to a clean, freshly washed face. It will absorb quickly and not leave your skin greasy.

You can also take coconut oil internally to help promote good skin health. Coconut oil is a good source of Vitamin E, which will help keep your skin healthy and ensure proper functioning of your sebum glands to reduce blockages. To take internally, spread some coconut oil on toast or melt a couple of tablespoons and add to yogurt, cereal or smoothies. Many people just eat the oil right from the spoon!
How to Choose a Good Coconut Oil to Treat Acne

You want the best of the best when it comes to coconut oil - to ensure it is not contaminated with any additives or by-products. Virgin Coconut Oil is very popular but also more expensive. It still contains the smell and flavour of coconut. If you are choosing a non-virgin coconut oil (popular for cooking and when you don't want to smell like a coconut!) , be sure to choose one that is organic to ensure it has not used any solvents to expel the oil.
Coconut Oil as a Moisturizer
Coconut oil is hard in it's original state and unless it's kept in a room that is warm, it can be a bit difficult to apply as a general moisturizer. One trick I've learned is take a cup or two of hardened oil and place in a sealproof container. Using a hand mixer, whip the oil until it is smooth. This makes it much easier to simply take a bit of the oil (that now looks like a cream) and use as a general moisturizer or first-aid solution for your skin. Keep the lid on when not in use.

Steareth-20

What is it:
Steareth-20 is also known as polyoxyethylene 20 stearyl ether. It can be contaminated with the known carcinogen 1,4-dioxane. According to the FDA anything with a PEG," "Polyethylene," "Polyethylene glycol," "Polyoxyethylene," "-eth-," or "-oxynol-" can be contaminated with 1,4-Dioxane because of the way that it has been manufactured.
No matter if it is "vegetable derived" or not. There are other steareths. The number following the "steareth" refers to how many units of ethylene oxide were reacted with the stearyl alcohol. In other words, the higher the number, the higher the risk.
Some companies that use this chemical: Lafe's, Aveeno, Nivea, Jason, Zia, Dove, Ban, Avon, Banana Boat, Neutrogena, Revlon.
Steph's Opinion:
One thing that suprised me was that Lafe's and Zia use this ingredient. They both are supposedly "natural" products that are carried in Whole Foods and other health food stores.
