- Newsletter - Ok, if you've received the newsletter before you'll notice this month - it's NEW! New design, new layout, new information!
- Growth - Natural e GREEN grew by 400% last year! We now offer over 740 products (and growing) and will soon be shipping worldwide.
- Organic Clothing, Bedding, Bath - Since we opened in 2009 our customers have been wanting organic clothing options. Being an online store with limited inventory room didn't allow us to bring in all those products and we just couldn't offer them - until now! (details further down....)
- Vitamins & Supplements -Customers have also been asking us to carry more herbs, vitamins & supplements and slowly we are adding them to our store. With thousands of products, it will take us some time but we'll get there!
- New Look - Our website got a makeover this month and hopefully now things are easier to find, including articles and information for you to read. We still have some areas to work on and we are hoping to have it complete by the end of this quarter!
- $5 Shipping (Canada) - We're trying a new shipping method for Canadian orders. For the next month, all regular post orders will ship @ a flat-rate of $5 for orders in Canada.

ADHD NEWS - Increase of Psychiatric Drugs
Last month, the Wall Street Journal had reported that use of psychiatric drugs to treat mental illness has drastically increased over the last decade. Drugs like Concerta (used often to treat ADHD) tripled in it's use. Many questions are being raised over this huge influx of prescribed medications and whether or not all prescriptions are necessary.While it's true that ADHD is being more properly diagnosed and therefore, more people, especially adults are now receiving treatments for it, there is also the risk of misdiagnosis of mental illness, especially in younger children.
According to Todd Elder's study, almost 1 million children may be misdiagnosed as having ADHD simply because they are the youngest in their classrooms. ADHD is diagnosed based largely on perception and the recent change to the DSM guide (version 5) now allows children as young as 3 to be diagnosed as having ADHD.
While some children seem to benefit from taking prescription drugs, it's important to remember that not all children will respond the same way to treatments. Many educators are even going so far as to tell parents to put their children on ADHD drugs simply because they do not sit still in class. ADHD drugs are not without risk and for many of the drugs, long-term effects are not yet established. There are many other treatments to help your child focus and pay attention and it's important to consider trying them before jumping to the pharmaceutical options.
Diet Children diagnosed as ADHD/ADD may be sensitive to certain foods such as sugar, food dyes and cow's milk. There are also links being explored between ADHD and pesticides. Wash food well and if it's a product where you eat the skin (ie. apples, cauliflower) try to go organic.
Routine Children with ADHD benefit from having a good, solid routine. Try using checklists and reminders to help your child learn how to stay organized and on track. Set bedtimes, getting enough sleep and knowing expectations are very useful in helping your child operate.
Herbal Options There are few studies done to show the effect of herbs on ADHD children, though countless testimonials from parents speaks volumes that some herbs can and do work. Omega oils alone don't often seem to do the trick but other herbs, such as Red Raspberry can make a difference. Again, each child is going to respond differently so it's important when you try these options to get their feedback and see how it makes them feel. They'll be able to tell you if they notice a difference!
No matter what options you go with for treating your child's ADHD, remember to mix in a good,balanced routine, a healthy diet and positive reinforcement. Seeing things and doing things differently can be frustrating for ADHD children and trying to understand how they think and do things will reduce frustrations and increase overall mood balance!

Chemical of the Day - Methylisothiazolinone (MIT)
Ok, let's talk Chemicals in our products! Many consumers WANT to read labels and avoid toxic chemicals but with so many freaky looking names, it can be hard to determine what the ingredient is and if it's safe or not. Let's talk MIT today.
Methylisothiazolinone, otherwise known as MIT or simply MI, is a chemical preservative used in a variety of products. It can cause skin sensitivity and a recent study shows that it can affect nuerological development.
It is a known toxin, has restrictions on it's use and is absorbed through the skin. It also contains a benzene ring which means it has the possibility to be an endocrine disruptor.
Where will you find MIT?
Shampoos, conditioners, shower gels, bubble baths, facial cleansers, anti bacterial hand sanitizers.
 Heard me mention MIT before? Yes. Last year I discovered that a brand I carried had changed their formula (without telling me) and the new formula contained Neolone 950 (aka Methylisothiazolinone). Needless to say I sent back the new formula and refused to bring in any more of their product. The product was Piggy Paint and yes, it still contains Neolone 950. Read those labels and look for MI, MIT, Neolone 950 or the long name and you are one step closer to becoming an expert on label-reading! |
