Airdrie Farmer's Market - June 1st 2011
We are happy to have a booth @ this season's market in Airdrie, Alberta. Our customers have asked us if we could put in an appearance and this summer we will! While we will try to bring as much as we can to the market, we can't bring every product we carry! Also - depending on weather, we may not display everything (since items like soaps don't mix well with rain!). So not everything may be on display but if you don't see what you are looking for - ask! Chance are good we have it there but they may still be in the boxes!

The market is located @ the Airdrie Legion which is just off of Edmonton Trail in Airdrie.

We'll try to bring as much as we can:
Non-toxic nail polish, mineral wear makeup, organic sunscreen, natural bug repellents, lotions, soaps, hair care, cleaning products, aromatherapy, baby care, perfumes and oils, snoring and sleep stones, native remedies and hazelwood necklaces/bracelets.
Forms of payment we'll accept:
 Using PayPal we can process credit cards. For your security we will require a piece of photo ID if you choose to use credit cards, to verify you are the owner of the card. Credit card information is not kept on file. Cash is always accepted and the legion also has a banking machine available, though it has run out of cash before.
Online ordering during market season:Keeping accurate inventory during market days will be a challenge. The numbers on the store site will not be accurate once we leave for the market. We have two choices: 1. We can close our online store until the next day when we update our inventory or, 2. We can leave the store open and may have potential back-order situations. After much thought, we've decided to keep the store open and deal with any back-orders as they arise. We will be ordering quite a bit during market season and hope back-orders are kept at a minimum. Any orders received the morning of Wed will have those products put aside. It is only orders placed after 12 noon on Wednesdays and before 11am Thursdays that may experience back-orders. |

Natural Allergy Treatments
We are lucky to carry a great herbal line of products from Native Remedies. Originally we brought their ADHD/ADD line in and seeing such great results, we've slowly added more and more of their products to our mix. Sunscreen Safety
'Tis the season for hot sun and getting some tanning in - but do you know how to do that safely? If you are like most parents, you have be drawn to the colorful and attractive displays in stores that feature this years selection of "protective" sunscreens for kids. Be warned now though, what is in those bottles is not necessarily safe for you or your kids and may not even protect from the harmful UV rays!
SunBlock and WaterProof - No Longer Allowed

The FDA is now banning the words "sunblock" and "waterproof" because they just aren't true.
Consumers and advocate groups have complained enough to raise awareness that labeling guidelines must change on kids sunscreen products.
Manufactures claim high SPF ratings that are misleading and often, the really high SPF lotions don't protect from the harmful UVA rays! Medical experts still recommend the good ol' SPF 30 broad spectrum sunscreens.
Risks of Using Sunscreens With Toxic Chemicals
You may be wondering why, if something is harmful to health, would the FDA and Health Canada allow them to be sold in stores? Good question!
Seriously, the answer is sad. There are very few "human studies" that have been conducted on these ingredients so they are allowed to be used for now as they are "generally assumed to be safe." Just like smoking cigarettes was acceptable 30 years ago and did not carry any warnings, research is now bringing many chemical ingredients into question and debate.

Dangers of ADHD/ADD Drugs and Links to Childhood Death
June14, 2010 - Harry Hucknall was 10 years old when he took his own life. Diagnosed as having ADHD and prescribed both Ritalin and Prozac, Harry had mentioned feelings of unwell and did not appear to be happy. Tests have revealed he had higher doses than a normal adult would have had for the same problems. Harry was not alone, hundreds of children have died from drug-related deaths, ADHD drugs that is.
What ADHD or ADD Is and Why It Needs Treatment
 ADHD or ADD is a condition that stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The main difference between ADHD and ADD is the hyperactivity component. For the sake of simplicity, we will refer to the condition as ADHD.
Children with ADHD have trouble focusing and concentrating. They don't always follow instructions, forget things quickly, have a hard time socially with peers and often can't sit still for long periods of time. It is hard to make an ADHD diagnosis until the child is school-age, that is, one he is in a structured classroom setting. Drug guidelines are set to not be administered to any child under the age of six, because before then, it is quite impossible to tell if the child has ADHD or not.
Many pharmaceutical drugs have been created to treat ADHD, though the safety and effectiveness of these drugs is really not yet proven. The only drug that has been around long enough to understand long-term effects is Ritalin and it has been proven to be dangerous and lead to addiction tendencies. However, most doctors and educators push to treat these children with mind-altering drugs so they fit into the norm. Often, more than one drug is prescribed and children end up on a "cocktail" of drugs.
Diagnosing ADHD in Children
So how is ADHD diagnosed? It is a term that was invented 50 years ago and covered a variety of symptoms. There is no concrete or absolute test for ADHD. Basically, to diagnose ADHD parents and educators will be asked to 'evaluate' the child on their behavior and especially compared to their peers. A psychiatrist will then evaluate the results, compare them to peer levels and decide whether or not your child is 'up to par'.
A study, done by Todd Elder, indicated that nearly one million children in the U.S may be misdiagnosed with ADHD based on this method of ADHD testing. The reasoning behind it deals with children who are the youngest of the classroom. In some cases, children who enter kindergarten when they are four (typically those that have birthdays at the end of year) will be almost one year younger than their peers. Developmentally, they will always be more immature than their peers and when evaluated in comparison to them, they will be seen as "not equal." (Well no kidding! One year is a big difference when it comes to children.)
