Farmer's Market: We will be @ the Airdrie Farmer's Market this year! The market starts on June 1st and runs every Wednesday from 330pm-700pm. We will have an outdoor table and the whole market is located in the parking lot of the Airdrie Legion. See below for details and the two dates we will not be @ the market. Airdrie Farmer's Market - June 1st 2011
We are SO excited to have a table at the Airdrie Farmer's Market this year! Two years ago we had an indoor table and this year we will be outdoors! So many customers wanted to see more of our products and an outdoor table will allow for exactly that!
Natural e GREEN will try its very best to bring as many products as we can to our tent. Though we can't guarantee that ALL the products will be there, we will certainly try!
Dates we will be @ the Airdrie Market:
June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29. July 6, 13, 20, 27. August 17, 24, 31.
Location of the Airdrie Market:
The market is located @ the Airdrie Legion which is just off of Edmonton Trail in Airdrie. The parking lot will host the white and tents for outdoor vendors and indoor vendors are located inside the Legion in the banquet room. (Due to special events the indoor venue will not be open each market day.)
Products we will bring to the Market:
We'll try to bring as much as we can:
Non-toxic nail polish, mineral wear makeup, organic sunscreen, natural bug repellents, lotions, soaps, hair care, cleaning products, aromatherapy, baby care, perfumes and oils, pet care, snoring and sleep stones, native remedies and hazelwood necklaces/bracelets.
Forms of payment we'll accept:
Right now we are working on a solution to accept credit cards at the market. Cash is always accepted and the legion also has a banking machine available, though it has run out of cash before, so we'll hopefully be accepting Visa and MC for your convenience.
Online ordering during market season:Keeping accurate inventory during market days will be a challenge. The numbers on the store site will not be accurate once we leave for the market. We have two choices: 1. We can close our online store until the next day when we update our inventory or, 2. We can leave the store open and may have potential back-order situations. After much thought, we've decided to keep the store open and deal with any back-orders as they arise. We will be ordering quite a bit during market season and hope back-orders are kept at a minimum. Any orders received the morning of Wed will have those products put aside. It is only orders placed after 12 noon on Wednesdays and before 11am Thursdays that may experience back-orders. |

New and Upcoming Products!

Natural Air Fresheners with Essential Oils
We have been asked to bring in some natural air fresheners for quite some time and are happy to say we finally have some good ones to offer you!
Coming from the Canadian company, Finesse Home Fragrances, we offer electric diffusers and reed diffusers to provide refreshing scents to your home! Infused with essential oils and contain no synthetic fragrances, parfums of phthalates; these natural air fresheners smell good and look good to!
Electric Diffusers
The electric diffusers are very cool! They come with their own dimmer switch and you control the heat intensity and concentration of fragrance by raising and lowering the dimmer switch! They diffusers provide a nice glow to any room and are quite decorative!
 What's even better with these diffusers is the no-mess crystals! These crystals are infused with essential oils and you place 1-2 teaspoons on the top plate of the diffuser. The crystals heat up and allow the fragrance to be released. They do not melt, no water or oil is required and they will never 'burn dry' like most other diffusers! To replace crystals, simply throw out as they are 100% biodegradeable! They will not 'gunk up' your diffuser tray and collect dust like oil diffusers do! Plus - you don't have the risk of candles with these diffusers!
You can also place some of these crystals in a dish and leave in places like laundry rooms and bathrooms for a splash of fresh scent!
Reed Diffusers
The reed diffusers are fragrant and attractive and use a small amount of vegetable alcohol in their base to allow the oils to travel up the reeds. Unlike other reed products, they are not composed mainly of alcohol and do not contain synthetic fragrances of phthalates!
Coming Soon: Hazelwood Necklaces
We will have hazelwood necklaces (great for easing teething pain of infants) which help balance the body's alkaline/acid balance. These necklaces are said to help with many health ailments such as eczema, acne, dermatitis, upset stomach, headaches and more!
Non-Toxic Nail Polish
We are getting rid of our Piggy Paint nail polish and not replacing it due to the new chemical Methylisothiazolinone that they recently added to their formula. We are happy to introduce SunCoat non-toxic nail polish and SunCoat Girl peelable nail polish. It should be in stock by the end of next week.
We are also evaluating HopScotch Kids nail polish and depending on how it wears, we should be bringing that in too! That order will not be in for a couple months estimated!
Children's Bath Line
Kogi naturals has a new line of children's bath products that we will be bringing in. They also have a GREAT bubble bath that produces AMAZING bubbles that last (all natural, no toxic chemicals!) We expect to have these in by beginning of June!

After nearly a month of a manufacturer shortage, I am happy to say that all Native Remedies are fully back in stock! It was very frustrating to be out of stock for so long but the manufacturer experienced a huge surge in sales and was unprepared for it. They are now fully stocked and so are we!

Cocamidopropyl Betaine or Coco Betaine
May 1, 2011 - A common chemical found in bath products, shampoos and other personal care products is cocamidopropyl betaine. It is used as a foam booster, as an antistatic agent, as a cleansing agent and as a skin conditioning agent. It is also toxic and can cause allergic reactions.
Cocamidopropyl Betaine or Coco Betaine, in Shampoo, Soaps and Bubble Bath
Cocamidopropyl Betaine is also known as Coco-betaine. It is used as a cleansing agent and promotes lathering and foaming. It is often found in shampoos, soaps, bubble baths, dish soaps and any other cleaning agents.
Health Risks of Coamidopropyl betaine or coco-betaine
This chemical is known to cause irritation of the skin, eyes, and lungs. It is also suspected to be harmful to the environment. Under high temperatures and acidic conditions, it can also produce nitrosamines (carcinogenic compounds).
The American Contact Dermatitis Society named cocamidylpropyl betaine Allergen of the Year in 2004.
Products Containing Cocamidopropyl Betaine or Coco-Betaine
Many commercial products contain toxic chemicals, so it's best to read the labels and do some research. Products known to contain this chemical are:

Burts Bees as a Natural Product and Safety Levels
I've been asked countless time, "Is Burt's Bees" a safe and natural option? The answer to that is "it depends".
Some of Burt's Bees products are ok, they contain safe ingredients and no known toxic chemicals. However, items like their bubble baths do have coco-betaine listed on their labels which can cause irritation of the skin, eyes and lungs.
Burt's Bees biggest con is their use of "fragrance/parfum". Most of their products contain synthetic fragrances which we know cause allergies and sensitivities and are composed of countless chemicals in their chemical makeup. They often contain phthalates which have a slew of health concerns.
My advice to all consumers is "read the labels"! If you aren't sure about an ingredient or two - look them up! Just because a product says "natural" or "organic" or "essential oils", does not mean they don't contain toxic chemicals! Chemicals go under alternate names too, so write them down, look them up and go from there. Also, just because a company has a couple of "safe" products does not mean they are all safe - so keep reading those labels!

Parents and Caregivers Warned: Risks of Using Topical Benzocaine
April 19, 2011 - Health Canada has issued a warning to remind parents and caregivers of the possible dangers of using topical benzocaine products. Topical applications of benzocaine are used to easy pain and can result in moderate to life-threatening health conditions.
Uses and Products for Topical Benzocaine
Benzocaine is used to control pain and can be found in many different formulations. You can buy benzocaine over-the-counter as a spray, gel, liquid and creams. Often, benzocaine products are used to treat sore throats, teething, toothaches, canker sores, burns, insect bites, itching and hemorrhoids. Healthcare practitioners will also use topical benzocaine during surgical procedures, dental procedures and other medical procedures to numb the mouth and throat.
Health Risks of Topical Benzocaine
Moderate to serious side effects of using topical benzocaine are problems breathing or swallowing, swollen tongue or mouth, irregular heartbeat, malaise, body twitching, hypersensitivity, burning, redness, itching and rash.
Another rare but life threatening health risk is the development of methemoglobinemia (MetHb). MetHb is a blood conditions that reduces the ability of red blood cells to deliver oxygen through the body. Symptoms of MetHb are:
- pale or blue-grey skin on lips or nail beds
- shortness of breath
- fatigue
- confusion
- headache
- lightheadedness
- nausea
- change of heart rate
Symptoms may appear shortly after exposure to benzocaine or a couple of hours later. In some instances, MetHb can progress to stupor, coma and even death.
Babies and Infants Using Benzocaine
Parents and caregivers are warned to use caution when considering use of benzocaine products for their babies, infants and children. While pain caused by teething and other common illnesses are uncomfortable for your young one, the severity of side effects from benzocaine can be worse.
Products like Orajel that contain benzocaine, are designed to numb the gums however, if baby swallows the gel (which often happens) it will numb their throat and may interfere with babies ability to swallow, gag and breathe.
If you experience any of the above-mentioned side effects after using a product containing benzocaine, seek medical assistance.
