| Spirit Key's Guiding Scripture: Matthew 16:13-19 |
|
The gospel of Matthew tells the story of Peter's confession of faith and the duties entrusted to Peter; indeed, to all Christians. This scripture is the reference scripture for Spirit Key's Ministry:
"When Jesus came to the region
of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his
disciples, 'Who do people say the Son of Man is?'
They replied, 'Some say John the Baptist;
others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah
or one of the prophets.'
'But what about you?' he asked. 'Who do you say I am?'
Simon Peter answered, 'You are the
Christ, the Son of the living God.'
Jesus replied, 'Blessed are you, Simon
son of Jonah, for this was not revealed
to you by man, but by my father in
heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter,
and on this rock I will build my church,
and the gates of Hades will not overcome
it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom
of heaven; whatever you bind on earth
will be bound in heaven, and whatever
you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.'"
Professor William Barclay wrote of this passage, "The Promise that Peter would have the keys to the kingdom was the promise that Peter would be the means of opening the door to God for thousands of people. The plain fact is that it is not only Peter who has the keys of the kingdom, every Christian has to open the door of the kingdom to someone, and to enter into the great promise of Jesus Christ."
Spirit Key's mission is to provide the "spiritual keys" to assist the church in the body of Christ, to move and increase and build the kingdom. Part of this scripture is the reminder of an obedient lifestyle, of our responsibility to God, and of accountability for our actions.
The responsibility of Peter and the church is to be accountable to God for our action here on earth, and this will affect the souls of men in time and in eternity. This Christian action is a choice and privilege of every person that must be made for, through, and by themselves.
Spirit Key recognizes our responsibility to the church to open Christ's door to God and to the Holy Spirit. That His will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
The privilege and responsibility of being a Christian and to assist Spirit Key in its mission has eternal consequences, and we pray daily for God's mercy and guidance on our journey.
Spirit Key's initiative is not only to have an impact on the ex-offender, but their families, friends, employers, and all that witness God's transforming power through us. We were all created in His image; from Him we have come, and to Him we will return. |
