Welcome to Century Farmhouse®!
Living in the country has many advantages, and one of the most heartwarming is the neighbor-to-neighbor contact that is often missing in a more urban living environment. Our little corner of the world wouldn't miss the excitement and drama of a real 4th of July parade put on and watched by the families who live along a half-mile stretch along the lakeshore. Every 4th we decorate bicycles, 4-wheelers, lawnmowers, and floats. Uncle Sam visits, someone's friend drives an antique fire engine that can barely turn the corner, neighborhood scouts provide a color guard, and boom boxes blare music, all in a red-white-and-blue celebration of the 4th. We start at one end of the road, proceed down the neighboring street, turn around and backtrack, peeling off at respective homes along the way. Extended family members and friends join in the fun, resulting in a bustling parade with more participants than viewers!
Community spirit is the backbone of many a larger endeavor, too. Each June, the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Showhouse opens its doors to designers and to the public to raise funds for breast and prostate cancer research at the Medical College of Wisconsin. This year our signature Showhouse soap, Rain into Roses, wears a new look and continues the fundraising endeavor. Designed specifically for the Showhouse event, Rain into Roses (or symbolically, Tears into Hope) is a lovely rainwater soap made with sweet almond oil and scented with geranium rose and spearmint. Accented with pink satin ribbon and packaged in a shimmering pink box, this soap celebrates life! 30% of the $7.95 price ($2.39, to be exact) of each bar is donated to the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Showhouse and is passed along to the Medical College of Wisconsin - a beautiful way for all of us join in support of cancer research and to enjoy a truly luxurious bar of soap.
