Okemo Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce
July, 2011
Welcome to Okemo Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce

Greetings!

As I write this newsletter, it occurs to me that I am now beginning my 4th year as your Executive Director.  As your director, I am constantly looking for new ways to attract businesses, increase visibility, and promote our Okemo Valley region and events.

Over the last 4 years,
*we've put ourselves on the map with all of our marketing efforts including the first region to introduce a mobile app,
*came through the worst 2009/10 recession,
*came together under one Okemo Valley brand in order to market ourselves,
*worked together to create packages,
*and support our local business community with our M2M benefit program.

It is an honor and privilege for me to serve you, our members.  I now ask that we all shop and support the Route 103 and Chester businesses who have been hurt by the two bridge closings.  Let's start at 4pm on July 23 for a cookout, music and dancing at the Green Mountain Banquet and Conference Center (American Legion complex).

Governor Shumlin will be in Chester to cut the ribbon for the bridge re-opening on Saturday, July 23 at 11am.  Please come for the celebration.  Elise from Gallery 103 is coordinating a block party.  Please call her to offer your help.

E.    Chester Info Booth -  Is being gutted and rebuilt week of 6/27 by Andrew Ladd Builders.

F.     Scenic Route 100 Byway grant was submitted to State.  We were ranked #3 out of #10 applications from Vermont.  This year there were a total of 260 applications submitted across the US, with a total funding request of $114.8 million dollars. FHWA has $40.3 million dollars to award. Obviously 1/3 the funds are available to fund the total amount requested from states.

FHWA has given themselves a tight schedule for turning around the 2011 grant applications and hope to be able to announce the awards by August. However, once they leave the FHWA office and go to the secretary for signature, they lose control of the timeline, so announcements could be later.
