Membership Committee News

The membership committee met on September 14th.  The agenda consisted of an aggressive membership drive.  The Chamber is growing and moving forward with strong marketing and member benefits.

Did you know your membership dues are tax deductible?

We are always looking for suggestions from our existing members as to how we can improve our Chamber.  The Membership committee has two seats available and would like two of our members to join us once a month to help build the Okemo Valley Chamber to be the best in the State.

Be sure to add your Member Benefit for the 2010 M2M Benefit Program.

Contact Laura Tuttle-Williams at 802-738-5556 or email:  calmmoments@yahoo.com
Marketing Committee News

The marketing committee met on Tuesday, September 15th at 8am at DaVallia. Our main focus was to review the Strategic Marketing Plan.  We compared 2009/2010 budgets.  We discussed brand ads in Yankee, CT Magazine and possibly a publication that covers NY/NJ.  The co-op ad that was done for the Wedding Resource Guide was grouped together with other members ads with footers to improve visibility and impact - an added bonus at no extra cost.  Our co-op ads are done in the Vermont Vacation Guide until next winter.

The blog will be put on the Agenda for the October meeting.  We need to identify writers from each town.  Please let the Chamber office know if you are interested.

We discussed the NY Times Travel Show on Feb 26-28 and to make it more affordable for members, we agreed to reduce the price to $250 for the day.
At our next Chamber mixer on October 14 at Curtis All American Restaurant in Chester, we are bringing back "Let's Make A Deal" to create Summer/Fall 2010 Packages that can be marketed at the NY Times Travel Show in February.

Banner ads are here!!!  This is the time to get banner ads on the website before Fall and Winter guests arrive.  Your choice of sizes 195 x 195 pixels for $150/year and/or 195 x 390 pixels for $225/yr.  Your choice of page(s) to be on.  Suggestion:  If you have an enhanced listing under LODGING, you might want your banner ad under THINGS TO DO.

Also for $50/year, your enhanced listing can be in more than one category!!!

You might have noticed videos on our website.  These were taken from RSN television program, Your Place In Vermont.  Call Dan if you would like a video segment 802-258-2200.

The wedding sub-committee met on Wednesday, September 16 at 8:30am. Present were Jessica Alberty from Hawk Inn and Mountain Resort; Ruxana Oosman from Echo Lake Inn and Susan Scacchi from Vermont Wedding Resource Guide and Liz Crowley from the marketing committee.  We talked about adding categories and pictures to the wedding section of the website as well as changing the name header from EVENT PLANNING to WEDDINGS & EVENTS.  We are also looking for testimonials and pictures from brides who loved having their wedding in the Okemo Valley.

Good Commons Retreat in the News!
"Back in New York, a week after bubbling brooks, grass-fed cows, and cozy dinners with strangers around a long wooden table, there was a distinct difference in the way we worked, ate, and shopped for food. It wasn't just how we read the labels to make sure chemical ingredients weren't the first three listed, it was the pace at which we feasted, the tension that no longer lingered around the shoulders, the brattle of city sounds that we could better embrace because of where we had been off Route 100A at Good Commons in Vermont."

Inn at Weathersfield - Greetings Friends!
We have had a busy few weeks....We have finally recovered from our 'Barolo Blowout'  - thanks to all who made the evening a roaring success!! Jason filmed a cooking show with Emeril Lagasse - and there will be a full 'Emeril's Green Planet' show dedicated to The Inn and our Farmer Partners set to air around Thanksgiving. (Emeril couldn't get enough of Wood's Cider Jelly & Boiled Cider!!)  The Thanksgiving Menu is planned -  And now...we are hard at work planning some special dinners for the winter season.

Under the tent behind The Pot Belly Restaurant on Main Street

6:00 pm to 10:30pm

Dust off your boots and shine up your buckles for a night auction fun, BBQ dinner, and dancing.  All proceeds will support Ludlow Streetscapes, a non-profit 501 ©3, for "Brightening up Ludlow" lighting improvements and beautification projects in the Village of Ludlow, Vermont.

A silent auction featuring Unique Vermont Experiences in the Okemo Valley will kick off the fundraiser, and a live auction will start after dinner.  Live auction items feature 12 artfully decorated custom cherry, Certified Green milking stools made by Clear Lake Furniture and 6 uniquely crafted benches - all made by local artisans within the Okemo Valley Region.  Also being auctioned are two fantastic vacations: a 7 night stay in a Tuscan Villa located in Manciano, Italy for 4 people, and a 6 night all inclusive South African Photo Safari for 2 people.

Dinner will feature a BBQ Rib "Throwdown" competition between Curtis Bar-B-Q and Squeels On Wheels which will be judged by the attendees, as well as a celebrity judging panel.  Additional menu items include BBQ chicken, corn bread, baked beans, coleslaw, and dessert.  Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for separate purchase.
