Welcome to Okemo Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce
Greetings!
These are tough economic times. As a small business owner, you may be feeling the pinch today and worrying about planning for tomorrow. Most likely, you are questioning whether to scale back your existing marketing plans, or do away with them altogether. The answer is neither! Uncertain economic times provide the perfect opportunity for you to take stock of your existing customer base and to leverage those relationships in order to weather the downturn-and stay competitive in the future. Now is the time to assess the fundamentals that drive your business; knowing your existing customers; acquiring new customers; connecting with customers in meaningful ways; and delivering the right solutions to meet customers' needs.
Emphasize the needs you can fulfill and the strengths you can offer so you clearly define for your customers why they should do business with you.
Position yourself in terms of benefits to your customers. Don't just toot your own horn.
Be consistent with your message. Whether it is expressed in person, on the phone, on your website, in your advertising, in your product descriptions, or in your e-communications, make sure your story- who you are and what you do-is clearly and consistently portrayed.
Hope these tips help you in your marketing efforts. Take the time now to understand your customers and communicate with them in the most effective and efficient way.
Work together to create packages, referrals and use our M2M benefit program card to do business with each other.

News From The Statehouse
I was at the Statehouse on January 21 representing the views of our members regarding the elimination of Amtrak rail service between Albany, NY and Rutland. There were 34 of us who testified about saving the train and it was televised on Fox 44 as well as WCAX 3. The Legislature's Joint Fiscal Committee rejected the Douglas administration's proposal to cut the Amtrak Ethan Allen passenger train service to Rutland and replace it with a bus serving the western side of the state from Albany to Bennington to Rutland and Burlington. Members of the committee said they wanted more time to consider the cut in rail service and another one to town highway aid, and said they would take them up again when the full Legislature convenes next month. Thursday, January 22nd was the Chamber Day at the Statehouse and I was joined by Tesha Buss of Good Commons and The Good Bus from Plymouth. We had a breakfast meeting with Dennis Devereux and Alice Nitka to begin a dialogue with our legislators regarding our Okemo Valley member companies. Next, Tesha and I sat in on the Travel and Recreation Council meeting. We heard a proposal from Fairpoint Communications regarding their 3-5 year plan; Graydon Stevens from VOGA (Vermont Outdoor Guide Association) who asked for support for a bill that proposes to permit adults to assume for themselves and their minor children the risks inherent in recreational activities by releasing simple negligence claims arising out of the adult's or minor child's participation in the activity. (I have copies at the Chamber office if anyone is interested), and then we heard a presentation from Mary Nowlan, the new editor of Vermont Life. I took the opportunity to invite her to lunch to talk about all the Okemo Valley has to offer.
