Community Foundation Receives Grant From W.K. Kellogg Foundation | | Pathways To Prosperity Initiative
The Community Foundation of South Alabama announces the launch of Pathways To Prosperity, an initiative of the Foundation designed to increase the long-term economic security of low-income families with children by improving early  education, promoting family literacy, and bolstering financial stability.
The Pathways To Prosperity Initiative is made possible by a $398,000 grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation located in Battle Creek, Michigan. By improving the education readiness of children transitioning from childcare to elementary school, and by elevating the literacy levels of their parents, the Foundation aims to increase student achievement. The initiative will also encourage young males to make better lifestyle choices that allow a smooth transition to responsible adulthood. |
| Community Foundation Seeks Director Of Development | | | Applications Due By August 15, 2012
The Community Foundation of South Alabama is seeking a director of development.
The director of development plays a pivotal role in the growth of the Foundation and is responsible for oversight of all new fund development, securing gifts to increase the Foundation endowment, and maintaining excellent donor relations.
Major responsibilities include development, planning and strategy, donor operations, and Board relations. Knowledge of the full range of deferred giving vehicles and the tax laws as they relate to Alabama and Federal charitable giving is required. A Juris Doctorate with related legal experience in estate planning and trust management is required. Read more... |
| Community Foundation Awards $75,000 | | | Programs That Encourage Positive Adolescent Development In Males
The Community Foundation of South Alabama has awarded grants totaling $75,000 as part of a three-year initiative designed to support programs that encourage positive development in adolescent males.
The goals of the Foundation's initiative is to support programs that increase positive decision-making abilities in adolescent males to encourage healthy lifestyles, and to increase the capacity of existing programs that provide a comprehensive approach to their overall well-being.
The following organizations received grants.
Alabama Outward Bound School, Inc. - $35,000 The grant will provide support for the Baldwin County Collaborative Youth Partnership Initiative, a collaborative which aims to reform the services provided to the at-risk adolescent male population in Baldwin County.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Alabama YMCA - $40,000 The funding will support the Great Expectations Mentoring Initiative, a two-part initiative designed to encourage collaboration and sharing of resources among key community stakeholders to provide successful mentoring relationships for adolescent males in Mobile and Baldwin counties.

The East Asian Art Program at the Semmes Public Library was made possible by a grant from The Community Foundation of South Alabama Clyde C. Synder Fund.
