The Community Foundation of South Alabama has announced the availability of grants for programs that promote public interest in art and classical music.
Nonprofit organizations, located within Baldwin, Clarke, Choctaw, Conecuh, Escambia, Mobile, Monroe and Washington counties are invited to submit a proposal. Read more... |
| Community Foundation Receives $50,000 Grant From Marguerite Casey Foundation | | Social Impact Fund
The Community Foundation of South Alabama has received a $50,000 grant from the Marguerite Casey Foundation for the Social Impact Fund. The purpose of the Fund is to provide increased levels of support for community-led social justice efforts. The grant will provide funding and other forms of support for grassroots level organizing and advocacy activities and policy efforts by local nonprofit organizations. These organizations focus on a range of social and economic issues that promote equality of opportunities and access in the development of strong communities and families among vulnerable groups. |
| Centre For The Living Arts To Launch Memory Project | | | Coming Soon
The Centre for the Living Arts will be launching the Memory Project in April 2012 which is a nine-month visual and performing arts program that will examine intersections of individual and collective memory. With a goal of community engagement through the arts, the Memory Project will include a exhibition of artists, live music, film screenings, public conversations and workshops.
The Centre for the Living Arts will offer programs exploring memory and its relationship to food, aging and the environment. The Memory Lounge will be a community resource center to assist those individuals coping with dementia and Alzheimer's disease. And the Whisper Project will consist of stories connected to local landmarks gathered from community members. |

Alabama MarketMaker
The Alabama MarketMaker website provides one spot where families, chefs and retailers can find locally produced seafood and farm produce such as Alabama wild-caught shrimp, farm-raised tilapia and home-grown tomatoes.
Alabama MarketMaker connects fishermen and farmers with consumers. There is no cost for fishermen and farmers to register and promote their products.

| Foundation Grant Helps Feed Families At Thanksgiving | | |
Over 1,000 Families Served In November
Have you ever been hungry? For the more than 9,000 families served by Prodisee Pantry in Baldwin County this year, the answer is yes! Fighting hunger while fe eding the human spirit is what Prodisee Pantry does on a weekly basis. The ministry provides love, hope and comfort by serving families in crisis through emergency food, disaster relief and referrals.
During the month of November, Prodisee Pantry volunteers provided 1,134 families with 3.5 tons of turkeys and boxes filled with fresh produce, meat and groceries. Hard times are squeezing everyone's pocketbook but a growing number of families are seeing the economic crisis take a chokehold. The cold reality is that twice as many families are facing hunger this year as compared to last year.

Public Forum Strengthening Communities in South Alabama | | |
December Forums In Escambia, Monroe, Choctaw and Conecuh Counties
Everyone is invited to participate in a public forum on strengthening communities in South Alabama. The forum is being presented by The Community Foundation of South Alabama and the United Way of Central Alabama. The David Mathews Center for Civic Life will be facilitating the meeting.
The public forum will give citizens an opportunity to share their concerns, identify public issues and think through potential actions that can be taken at the community level.

| Community Foundation Reconfirmed In Compliance With National Standards | | |
Foundation Meets Rigorous Standards for Quality and Accountability
The Community Foundation of South Alabama recently received notification that it has met the nation's highest philanthropic standards for operational quality, integrity and accountability. The notice comes from the Council on Foundations, a national professional association based in Washington, D.C.
"The National Standards Seal is similar to the Good Housekeeping Seal for community foundations," said Diane Miller, Manager, Community Foundations National Standards Board. "It says that The Community Foundation of South Alabama has demonstrated a commitment to operational quality, integrity and accountability."
The Community Foundation of South Alabama administers more than 400 charitable funds and tailors each one to meet the unique charitable interests of individuals, corporations and nonprofit agencies. A range of flexible charitable funds allow our donors to advance causes such as education or disaster relief, support a specific nonprofit or recommend grants.
