Community Foundation VISTA Members Volunteer For 9/11 Day of Service
September 11, 2011 commemorated the 10 year anniversary of the terrorist attacks against the United States that resulted in 2983 people killed. On this special day of service, AmeriCorps VISTA members working with the Community Foundation volunteered at the Museum of Mobile, for the opening day of the exhibit "Recovery: The World Trade Center Recovery Operation" which runs from September 11 through December 2.
"I was lucky enough to volunteer at the Museum of Mobile, which hosted the exhibit 'Recovery.' It is a truly moving exhibit; many left teary eyed with the memories of that day. When you walk through the exhibit it feels like only yesterday that the towers and pentagon were crashed into and that the forth plane crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. It was truly rewarding to see so many young people soaking up all the information about that day since some were not old enough to remember that tragic day. I truly enjoyed being a part of this remembrance," recounted Elizabeth Roney, AmeriCorps VISTA, the Community Foundation. |
