| Foundation Grant Brings Asian Art Program To Semmes Community | |
The Asian Art Program held this summer at the Semmes Public Library was made possible by a grant from The Community Foundation of South Alabama Clyde C. Synder Fund. Sixty children in west Mobile were exposed to Asian art history and the art techniques of sumi-e (ink and wash painting), gyotaku (fish printing), origami (paper folding) and suminagashi (ink floating). The student artwork will be on display at Southern Art and Framing until the end of August. Beginning in September the exhibit will be shown at Semmesonian Gallery located in the Semmes Public Library. At the Community Foundation, we firmly believe exposure to the arts enhances critical thinking, self-esteem and social development.
