Prodisee Pantry has received a $250,000 grant from The Community Foundation of South Alabama to provide food for families as they work to recover from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
"We're seeing a lot of middle-class families and small business owners that are waiting to hear from the Gulf Coast Claims Facility," said Deann Servos, Prodisee Pantry Executive Director. "Many families are feeling the compounded effect of Ivan, Katrina, the recession and the oil spill."
Prodisee Pantry is the largest food provider in Baldwin County and serves more than 900 families per month. Recipients include anyone with emergency food needs, unemployed, under-employed, and those that have lost their jobs due to the oil spill and economic crisis. Prodisee Pantry provided 256 tons of food in 2010 and anticipates the number will climb to 346 tons of food in 2011.
