Over 420 AmeriCorps Members Serving In Alabama
The fifth annual AmeriCorps week will be celebrated May 14 - 21, 2011. This week is designed to show the impact of AmeriCorps members on critical issues in our communities, bring more Americans into service and to salute the volunteers serving our country.
The Community Foundation of South Alabama has been an AmeriCorps VISTA grant recipient for several years and has partnered with nonprofit organizations to address local problems by placing VISTA members in the community.
"As an AmeriCorps VISTA, it is my responsibility to recruit and train volunteers for the Red Cross Alabama Gulf Coast Chapter. These volunteers graciously give their time to serve in disaster-affected communities," Joe Kennedy, AmeriCorps VISTA working with American Red Cross.
"I've also been able to take part in a monumental piece of the Gulf Coast's history through community organizing, brainstorming, and coalition building across five states," Nicole Spade, AmeriCorps VISTA assigned to Mobile Baykeeper.
"Many of the volunteers who are sometimes disabled themselves find in their hearts the time and energy to help others in need," Janie Stallworth, AmeriCorps VISTA assigned to the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Monroe County.
