Donor Advised Funds are a large portion of the charitable assets held by The Community Foundation. In 2009, these funds accounted for 31% of total assets and contributed $1.4 million to the total grants issued to nonprofit organizations by the Foundation.
"Individuals and corporations can open a Donor Advised Fund with the Foundation by making a contribution and receiving an immediate tax deduction. The charitable investment account is managed by the Foundation but allows you to remain involved with the grant-making by recommending charities to support," said Dr. Bernard Eichold, Vice Chairman of The Community Foundation Board of Directors.

| Youth Grant Allocation Board Kicks Off New Year | | | The 2011 Class of the Youth Grant Allocation Board (YGAB) held its first meeting September 18th at The Community Foundation. The 32 member board is composed of sophomores, juniors, and seniors nominated by public and private high school counselors in Mobile and Baldwin Counties. These young adults are given the opportunity to learn about community needs and how to give back to their community through grant making.
The first meeting was both educational and exciting. Students were introduced to the world of philanthropy and learned that some of the entertainers they admire are active philanthropists, such as Brittney Spears, Mariah Carrey and Jackie Chan.
Photo: YGAB members participate in the ice breaker activity referred to as the human knot. Standing in a circle, group members reach across and shake hands with another person. The group must then try to unravel the "human knot" by moving their bodies without letting go of each other's hands.
