| The Community Foundation Awards Grants
Totaling $33,275 To Promote Public Interest
In Art And Classical Music |
|
|
The Community Foundation of South Alabama has awarded grants totaling $33,275 from the Clyde C. Snyder Fund to promote public interest in art and classical music. The 2010 Clyde C. Snyder Fund grant competition awarded 10 grants that support art programs and events that integrate the arts in curricular activities and bring the arts to at-risk youth, low-income families, senior citizens and the disabled.
Years of research show that arts education does help solve problems. It helps to build academic achievement, social and emotional development as well as civic engagement. Involvement in the arts can improve critical thinking, concentration, confidence and teamwork.
Implementing arts programs can help communities recover its investment through savings to the criminal justice system. Studies have shown that art activities have a positive impact on youth at risk by deterring delinquent behavior. Youth that are engaged in after-school and summer arts programs show an increase in overall academic performance and a decrease in truancy problems.
Through its grant making, The Community Foundation of South Alabama has helped to strengthen the cultural resources of our area for more than 30 years.

| 2010 Census Forms Due April 1, 2010 |
|
| We Can't Move Forward Until You Mail It Back
Make time today to complete your 2010 CensusForm and place it in the mail before April 1. When you complete the Census form you're making a statement about what resources our community needs going forward.
The information collected by the census helps to determine how more than $400 billion dollars of federal funding each year is spent on infrastructure and services like hospitals, job training centers, schools, senior centers, bridges and emergency services.
Census information affects the numbers of seats our state occupies in the U.S. House of Representatives. This information is also used to advocate for causes, rescue disaster victims, prevent diseases, research markets, locate pools of skilled workers and much more.
When you do the math, it's easy to see what an accurate count of our residents can do for your community. Better infrastructure and more services.
Mail your 2010 Census form back today. |
