Elektra's Mira Program Welcomes Young Singers for June Concert
Application Deadline Extended to Feb 15

Are you a young woman in high school and interested in choral music? Would you like to rehearse and sing with an world-class ensemble? Then Mira is the program for you!
"Mira" (latin: "wonderful") is the name of Elektra's mentoring program, named after the  giant red star with a comet's tail that sheds life-giving matter, forming new stars and planets in its wake as it speeds along its orbit.

Mira, a star with a comet's tail

Elektra's Mira programme is designed to instill a lifelong love of singing in young women so that when they leave high school they know there are welcoming places in which they can continue to sing and grow musically, whether that place is Elektra or some other ensemble.

Mira singers, with the support of their high school choral directors, study selected works on their own, attend Elektra rehearsals, and then perform those works with Elektra as part of the choir's upcoming Romance concert on June 6.

Interested? Then click here to check our the Mira Application page on our website!
Application deadline is February 15.

Welcome the World: A Choral Gala
Presented with Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad

Welcome the World imageWe're one week away from our exciting 4-choir extravaganza, Welcome the World: A Choral Gala. Anticipation amongst the participating choirs (Elektra, Vancouver Chamber Choir, musica intima, and Chor Leoni) is high as we prepare to showcase some of our best individual material to the world.

Of the thirty works programmed in twenty languages, ten of them are by Canadian composers or arrangers, and  twenty of them are by living composers. The concert opens and closes with combined works - over 120 of Vancouver's best choral singers raising their voices in song.

Welcome the World opens with a choral 'round robin', Around the World in 15 Minutes, with the audience encircled by singers in the best 'surround sound' experience you'll ever hear! For Elektra's solo set, Morna has chosen works by R. Murray Schafer, David MacIntyre, Ko Matsushita and Gunnar Eriksson.

All the choirs have selected their best works for this concert, and it's safe to say that you're not going to hear this combination of choirs and repertoire on the same concert ever again. Tickets are $35 (plus service charges) and are available through Ticketmaster.
