Elektra Women's Choir Proudly Announces
fire in hearth image
Vancouver's Elektra Women's Choir and Artistic Director, Morna Edmundson, are pleased to announce the launch of From the Hearth as part of the relaunch of the choir's website, www.elektra.ca.

From the Hearth is a unique listening experience featuring recorded music by Elektra with commentary from Artistic Director, Morna Edmundson and Conductor Emerita, Diane Loomer, C.M. Join them as they sit by the fire, enjoy a glass of wine, and reminisce about Elektra's past 23 years.

From the Hearth is now available for listening or download from our website for your enjoyment on your computer or MP3 device. We invite you to sit by the warmth of the fire at home, sip a glass of wine, and enjoy time with Elektra.

Elektra is a charitable organization and can issue you a tax receipt for tax purposes for a minimum donation of $25 or more. All donations will assist Elektra in its mission to "inspire and lead in the choral art form through excellence in performance and through the creation, exploration, and celebration of women's repertoire."

(If you are unable to listen to the recording by downloading the MP3 file from the website, please contact the Elektra office to request a copy of the recording on a CD, which we would be happy to provide in acknowledgement of a minimum donation of $50.)

Elektra CD's now available for purchase through our website

Garden of Dreams CD cover imageWe've just simplified your holiday shopping!

With the relaunch of www.elektra.ca you may now purchase recordings directly through the website by using PayPal, clicking through to iTunes, or choosing to purchase through CDBaby.com. You'll find convenient links to each purchasing option on each CD page. (You can even choose to give a recording digitally through iTunes, making gift-giving to those far-flung friends even easier!)

Our latest recording,
Elektra's Garden
, is a collection of secular music from many parts of the world, including Spain, France, England, the United States and Canada, and it is sure to please the music-lover on your list.

Elektra's Garden evocatively explores the human experiences of nature and love. Canadian composers Allan Bevan, Eleanor Daley, Allison Girvan, Diane Loomer, and Stephen Smith offer works ranging from new compositions to lyrical texts to exceptional folk song arrangements. The disc also includes two major suites: the delicate and deservedly famous Five Hebrew Folk Songs by Eric Whitacre and Stories of the Wind from Spain's Alejandro Yagüe, which was written for Elektra.

Elektra's Garden represents the final recording under the co-conductorship of Morna Edmundson and Diane Loomer, C.M. (Ms. Loomer stepped down as co-conductor at the end of the 2008/2009 season and Ms. Edmundson was appointed sole Artistic Director of the ensemble.) As such, this CD (recorded over the past several years), is not only a beautifully presented collection of works sung by one of Canada's foremost choirs, but also a fitting tribute to the musical vision and friendship that has lead them so sensitively for 22 years.
