Greetings!
We look forward to seeing you at the PTA Math and Technology Night on Thursday, January 19 at 6:30 PM.
We'll have a lot of fun exploring and learning more about math and technology by playing games, watching cool technology demonstrations, and digging deep into the meaning of the relationship between a circle's diameter and its circumference, better known as Pi - and by that we mean PIE and eating pie.
We're excited to see you all there! If you'd like to volunteer or have questions, please contact Nancy Chazen.

Variety Show Update
We're in need of your help for the annual Variety Show on Friday, March 30. This is a big show (not to mention fun and memorable), and we need volunteers to help with the planning and execution of the event!
It will take a bunch of willing parents to make this show happen. You can volunteer using the CTES PTA Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities nList site (owner email address: nlistcteshelp@gmail.com; password: 53be5a). And, we need the following Coordinator positions filled immediately to form our core planning team:
- Ticket Coordinator to manage and oversee the ticket sales (will work with 2 ticket volunteers)
- Concessions Coordinator to manage and oversee the food (popcorn, candy) and drink sales at the event (will work with 2 concessions volunteers)
- Emcee Coordinator to oversee the 5th grade students who will be our emcees for the show
- Sound System Coordinator to "oversee" (ensure all goes as planned, answer questions, etc.) Shaner Sound at rehearsals and at the show
- Site Map/Logistics Coordinator to manage the logistical needs of auditions, rehearsals, and the show (tables, chairs, electrical needs, trash/recycling, etc.
WE MUST HAVE THE COORDINATOR POSITIONS FILLED BY JANUARY 31 TO ASSIST IN THE PLANNING. SO THE VARIETY SHOW COULD BE CANCELED WITHOUT PARENT HELP!
If you're interested in helping out in any way, or just have questions please contact Nancy Keith, Variety Show Chairperson. We will be having a kick-off planning meeting this Friday, January 13 at 9:00 AM in the Library Conference Room. So join us if you can!

EcoFest Update
EcoFest is our annual family-friendly, eco-themed educational carnival. This year, it will be held on April 27 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. To continue the tradition of making this event super fun and successful we need a lot of CTES parents to help. A huge thank you to the great group of parents who have already joined the team, but we still have 2 open Coordinator positions to fill:
- Site Facilitator Coordinator: creating and overseeing the site map for the event (including electrical needs, tables, recycle cans, etc.) and overseeing the set up and clean up of the event
- Decorations Coordinator: determine and provide decorations for the event as needed
If you're interested in these positions and would like to know more, please contact the EcoFest co-chairs, Catherine Curran or Nancy Chazen. If you'd like to be a part of the Team and help out in other ways, please contact the EcoFest Volunteer's Coordinator, Tracey Florence.
Our next planning meeting is Friday, January 13 at 10:30 AM in the CTES Library Conference Room C. So please join us to plan the fun.

Healthy Cub Corner
Every January we all make resolutions for the new year. This year, try making some resolutions as a family. One idea is to make a resolution for the month or the week and let your children decide what it is, such as - give your siblings a hug every day, or say something nice to someone each day. Let your children set the tone. It's also fun to do something completely different as a family such as stay in your pajamas all day and eat dessert first! Kids will get excited about the unexpected. You can pick one day of the month that will be reserved for something unexpected and surprising. A great resolution is to decide to be more active as a family. It can be as simple as taking a walk after dinner or playing touch football in the backyard. Childhood obesity is an epidemic in the US, and we need to start encouraging our children to be active on a daily basis. Also, consider making some food swaps to encourage healthier eating. Some examples are instead of french fries, try baked sweet potato sticks or instead of mac and cheese, eat whole wheat pasta with tomato sauce. What we teach our children now about healthy eating and exercise will stick with them for a lifetime. Have fun choosing your family resolutions! Return to index |
