Greetings!
Happy New Year Cub Families!
The Henrico County Public Schools Stakeholder Satisfaction Survey was sent home this week. Parents will have until February 3 to return them. Parents with two or
more children in HCPS will receive a survey for each child. If both children attend the same school, they may complete both surveys if the school experience is unique based on each child's grade level. Should the perspective be the same for both children (twins), parents only need to complete one. Then of course, a mother and a father could each fill out a survey based on their unique school experiences.
This is the third year in a row for the Parent Surveys. Dr. Russo and the School Board are looking for trends. After this year, the surveys may only be issued every other year or so.
Please take a moment to answer each question and then return the stakeholder satisfaction survey to us by February 10, 2012. We appreciate your time and look forward to your feedback. Thanks for your continued support of Colonial Trail and all Henrico County Public Schools.
Based on the 2011 stakeholder survey results and our analysis of the 2010 results, we were able to identify several areas of strength and weakness, which we considered in the development of the goals and objectives for Colonial Trail's 2011-2012 School Improvement Plan.
Strengths included: - 99% of our parents felt welcome at Colonial Trail.
- 99% of our parents believe our teachers appear enthusiastic about teaching.
- 99% of our parents believe this school's staff is committed to their child's education.
- 99% of our parents believe this school prepares their child to be a good citizen.
Some relative weaknesses included: - 93% of our parents felt when their child has a problem, he/she knows who to talk with.
- 90% of our parents felt they were involved in the decisions that affect their child's education.
- Only 82% of our parents felt that Career Planning was a focus last year. This year, we have expanded our Career Fair Parental Involvement, and have held an SCA Spirit Day for Careers. We also made an effort to increase our use of Junior Achievement lessons and plan to bring back the HCPS Careers on Wheels bus through the department of Career and Technical Education (CTE) in the spring of 2012. Our school counselors and teachers also used the career planning website, Careerview.org, created by Virginia Tech, which features over 400 career choices for grades 1-5. One aspect of the program is a career inventory that helps determine which careers would appeal to each child's interests. Check this out from home some time!
And we've shown improvements the last two years in a row in the following areas: - The school makes effective use of technology for instructional purposes.
- My child's school makes effective use of technology as a means of communication.
At Colonial Trail, we believe Communication is Key! Thanks to our PTA who create our Cub Chronicle each week and keep us all informed!
Mr. Cantone

| CTES Math and Technology Night
Mark you calendars and save the date for the CTES Math and Technology Night on Thursday, January 19 at 6:30 PM. The PTA is hosting this fun family night to explore and learn more about math and technology by playing games, watching cool technology demonstrations, and digging deep into the meaning of the relationship between a circle's diameter and its circumference, better known as Pi - and by that we mean PIE! Bring the whole family to enjoy pie desserts and further your understanding of math and technology practices. We need volunteers for this event, so if you're interested in the planning, setting up, staffing a table, or anything else, please contact Nancy Chazen.
