COLLECT OF THE DAY

Gracious Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came down from heaven to be the true bread which gives life to the world: Evermore give us this bread, that he may live in us, and we in him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

REFLECTION

We hear much of modern skepticism. There is, perhaps, no more in the world now than there has always been, only its forms have changed. Its answer lies not in argument, but in the lives of Christ's followers. It was Christians who lived like Christ that won the first battle for Christianity, and it must be Christians who live like Christ that shall win the last. The life of faith in the Son of God, when fully lived out, always has been and always will be a victorious argument.

But to live this out faith must be firm. We cannot meet a skeptical world with weak faith. If we would draw our friend out of a swift-rushing current, our own feet must not stand on slippery places. We must seek faith in looking to him who has the giving of it. We must keep him before our minds and come so near him in daily prayer that we can say, "That which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon and our hands have handled of the Word of Life, declare we unto you."

MORE ABOUT THE CHURCH SCHOOL GIVING PROJECT

Thank you to the Jean-Gilles family who spoke to our church school families about this year's Church School Lenten Giving Project, raising funds for the House of Young Children in Diquini, Haiti. Each church school family was paired up with one of the approximately 33 children currently living in the orphanage. Children decorated boxes with pictures representing Haiti, supplies needed in the orphanage and a picture of the child for whom their family is raising funds. Throughout Lent, children will be raising funds for the orphanage by doing extra chores, running bake sales during refreshment hour, returning recyclables and other creative methods.

Donations can be placed in the collection box in the Narthax. Checks should be made out to HUDVALFOR-MY HAITI.

Mark your calendars for the HIZ HONORS HIKE TO THE HOOK FOR HAITI taking place on Saturday, May 7 beginning at 8:30am. Participants will hike from Veteran's Park in Nyack to HookMountain.  Limited information can be found at www.rocklandmyhaiti.org

PARTING THOUGHT

Assignment #1: Write a poem about Baseball and God

by Philip E. Burnham, Jr

And on the ninth day, God
In His infinite playfulness
Grass green grass, sky blue sky,
Separated the infield from the outfield,
Formed a skin of clay,
Assigned bases of safety
On cardinal points of the compass
Circling the mountain of deliverance,
Fashioned a wandering moon
From a horse, a string and a gum tree,
Tempered weapons of ash,
Made gloves from the golden skin of sacrificial bulls,
Set stars alight in the Milky Way,
Divided the descendants of Cain and Abel into contenders,
Declared time out, time in,        stepped back,
And thundered over all of creation:
                                       "Play ball!"
