Compliance relief in sight for small companies limited by guarantee

The Federal Government released draft legislation on 4 December 2009 to substantially change the compliance burden for smaller companies limited by guarantee (including removing the requirement for an audit).
 
However there is a sting in the tail for DGR's and companies with an annual revenue of over $250,000.

Anti-Discrimination

The Wesley Mission Council (WMC) recently successfully appealed a decision against it by the NSW Anti Discrimination Tribunal which found it had discriminated against a same sex couple applying to become foster carers.

Despite the fact that it is a case before a Tribunal in NSW, the decision has shed some light on the meaning of 'religion'.

Jessily WebbQueensland refers its Industrial Relations law making power to the Commonwealth
 
The Fair Work (Commonwealth Powers) and Other Provisions Act 2009 refers Queensland's industrial relations power for all private sector employers and employees to the Commonwealth. 
 
This means that all Queensland private sector employers and employees will now fall under the operation of the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth), the National Employment Standards and the Modern Awards.
