The High Court of Australia handed down its decision in the Word Investments case (Commissioner of Taxation of the Commonwealth of Australia v Word Investments Ltd [2008] HCA 55) on 3 December 2008. This decision dramatically changes the existing interpretation of the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) regarding the entitlement of entities to endorsement as Tax Concession Charities (previously Income Tax Exempt Charities).
