The Carp Classic V ~ "Carpalooza"
Don't
miss out on the fun, the bragging rights, the great prizes, and the
chance to hook into the biggest, ugliest fish you've ever caught on a
fly.
This year will be the Fifth Annual Carp Classic ("Carpalooza"). It's
hard to believe that Dan Hurzeler, aka Carp lips, started this great
event five years ago. . ...which in Carp years is. . . .five years ago. This event is a fly-fishing only tournament and FUN fundraiser for fly-fishing guides and/or
'fly industry' people that are deemed in need of fundraising help
for the year.
Tournament dates are May 15 & 16 @ Blackfoot Reservoir, South East Idaho. Anglers
consisting of 3-person teams are competing for prizes in the Team Total-Weight division and daily men's, women's and kids biggest fish divisions. A mandatory rules meeting will be held at 8:00 AM, Friday the 15th. Tournament
starts each day with a shot-gun start at 9:00 am and ends at 5:00 PM at same location for weigh in. Entry fee is $25.00 per person
per day
and includes a Carp Classic V hat. Pre-registration is required before
the start of the contest. A $5.00 per person pancake
feed will be held each morning at 8:00 am (donated by Gary & Leslie Green) at the designated starting area. There will be Raffle prizes
so don't forget to bring your wallet.... this is a fundraiser.
DON'T FORGET your fly-fishing gear (6, 7, 8 or 9
weights) camping supplies, food, beer, ice, whiskey AND YOUR IDAHO FISHING LICENSE.

This year the Carp Classic fundraising dollars will go to the Eric Gagel Memorial Fund as a college fund for soon-to-be born child of Jenny Gagel (Simms Fly Fishing Products Customer Service Representative).
Eric Gagel, 44, of Belgrade died of a heart attack on Wednesday, January 28, 2009. After graduating from University of Louisville in 1987, Eric traveled extensively and ended up in Big Sky, where he met his future wife, Jenny. He and Jenny married in 1999 and settled in Belgrade, Montana.
Eric's most favorite thing to do was go hiking or walking with their dogs. Eric was an avid sea kayaker, rock climber and eventually came back to fishing for enjoyment. It was something that he had done as a child with his grandmother and realized how much he enjoyed it.
The highlight of Eric's life was learning that he would be a father. He was so looking forward to welcoming his and Jenny's first child into the world this May. He was a very proud "pre Poppa".
Eric is survived by his wife of almost 10-years, Jenny Gagel.

DIRECTIONS Take I-15 to Idaho Falls. Take exit #116. This is Sunnyside Road.
Follow Sunnyside Road all the way east (through the neighborhoods)
until you see the signs to Blackfoot Reservoir. It is about 45 minutes
to an hour drive on a dirt road, heading south from Sunnyside Road.
When you get to the reservoir, go left, about 4 miles to the Pebble
Beach boat ramp. Look for people laughing hysterically (you might want
to "Google Earth" Blackfoot Res. to get a feel for where the event is). |
