A report published by the New England Journal of Medicine concluded that soy protein correlates with significant decreases in serum cholesterol, low density lipoprotein (the bad cholesterol known as LDL), and triglyceride concentrates.

Shortly after that study, another clinical study was conducted at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical, and later published in the Archives of Internal Medicine.  It found that soy protein can reduce plasma concentrates of total LDL cholesterol without having any adverse effect on the good cholesterol, HDL.  This study, among others, led to the FDA approved claim that "25 grams of soy protein a day, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease."

The studies and the claim approved by the FDA were not news to Shaklee.  In 1961, nearly 30 years prior, the company became the first in the health industry to create a soy-based protein supplement, Instant Protein Soy Mix.  Clinical studies since that time have only reaffirmed Shaklee's original findings that soy protein is a key building block for maintaining overall good health.

Soy protein is a compound derived from soybeans.  Soy protein is found in the discrete particles known as protein bodies, which hold 60-70% of the soybean protein.  Soybeans contain the highest levels of phytic acid which is present in many plant tissues and binds in the intestinal tract to certain ingested minerals, including magnesium, calcium, iron and zinc.  This binding process helps to reduce the amount the body assimilates and also helps to prevent over-mineralization of joints - a condition common in elderly adults.  Soybeans contain all the amino acids essential for overall health.  These amino acids must be supplemented in the diet because the body cannot synthesize them.  Soy is especially important for vegetarians and vegans, as well as anyone seeking the benefits from animal protein without the saturated fat.  Soy supplies as much protein as animal-based proteins, but with much less fat.

The soybeans used in all of Shaklee's soy products undergo an independent certification process known as the Identity Preserved Program (IPP), which ensures that the soybeans used are free from exposure to genetically modified soybeans.  Shaklee's soy products, as with all the Shaklee products, are natural and of the finest quality ingredients.  And all of Shaklee's soy proteins are water washed which retain beneficial and critical isoflavones, instead of a damaging alcohol.

QUICK MIX RECIPES

 

Soup

Add 2 1/2 tablespoons of Instant Protein Soy Mix to a package of dry soup (2.75 to 3.75 oz. package).  Add an additional half cup of water, and follow mix instructions.  Makes 4 servings.

 

Caesar Dressing

Combine 5 tablespoons Instant Protein Soy Mix with one 1-oz. package of Caesar dressing seasoning.  Add an additional 3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons of water.  Combine protein, seasoning, water, and vinegar in blender and blend until smooth.  Slowly add oil while blending.  Stir in 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese.  Makes 8 servings.

 

Pancakes

Combine 6 tablespoons Instant Protein Soy Mix and 1 cup of pancake mix.  Add additional 3/4 cup milk and follow directions on box.  Makes 3 servings.

 

Muffins

Add 9 1/2 tablespoons Instant Protein Soy Mix to a box of muffin mix (17.5 oz to 19 oz box).  Increase water by an additional half cup and follow instructions on box.  Makes 12 servings.

 

Cookies

Add 13 tablespoons Instant Protein Soy Mix to a package of dry cookie mix (1 lb. 1.5 oz to 1 lb. 4 oz-package).  Add additional 1/3 cup milk and follow instructions on package.  Makes 18 servings.
