...I decided to do my best to bury in the backyard EVERYTHING I ever thought I thought, believed I believed, and just read the bible. If God didn't say it and Jesus didn't live it, it would be out. Needless to say, that took me a long way. But, because I do see that the Feasts of the Lord seem to be for me and the Sabbath and the food thing, well, I began reading and looking for information, and got excited about the Hebrew Roots. So much just resonates with my conscience and settles me... there is more diversity (nice word) there than in the church if that is possible. I figured that since I believed the Torah was for anyone who is joined to the Messiah, then I must be Two House. I don't think I am genetically Hebrew nor do I think I need to be. I know that it is all about the Cross and my relationship with Jesus. I just wanted to serve Him the way He wants to be served and not get back into people pleasing. But this just seems like it may have been another path to the same destination. So I am starting to see that, and asking God to sort me out, and I find TRI. I think, "Lord, I asked for a drink of cool water, not a COLD SHOWER". But the shower contnues ...and i like it! (ID)

I just want to thank you for taking the time to address my question from last week [on Red Letter Edition - LIVE! Radio program.]   I admit that I felt left hanging w/the short response last week, however I realized you have a lot of demands on your time, so I somewhat understood.  I struggled all week, thinking that I should not have asked you that question, thinking I should have found the answer within myself. Actually I did come close to finding it after searching myself over and over.  I was very pleasantly surprised yesterday to open my email and find a response from Pam saying you would address the question again today. Let me say you answered it very well. It has really sunk in that to obey the LORD I have to obey my husband! I don't have a problem obeying my husband; I want to, however I realize that I am getting out from under his covering when it comes to serving the LORD.  The things of the LORD are not important to him so I try to do it on my own and find myself resenting him.  I DO NOT want to do that.  You have helped me be free from that resentment! My only job is to obey him.  You don't know how much pressure that takes off me! What Pam had to say just confirmed what you had already said. I appreciate her so and plan to get the book she suggested. Thank you Don and Pam for being obedient to what the LORD has called you to.  (TX)

Will be taking Don's 'gifts for the feast' idea this year...Harvested a five gallon bucket of sweet potatoes this morning and have five gallons of concord wine that will be ready just in time. We won't drink it all at once! Also, a few watermelons that I hope will hold their own until then. Thankful to have something from our own hands as first fruits despite my feeble gardening efforts. So excited about Trumpets this Sabbath! I think I'll pull out the firecrackers and find some sparklers since we don't have a shofar! (KY)

You're probably already aware of this, but when I attempted to go onto TRI.com this morning, I got a warning that the site was an "attack site" which means someone has planted malicious software on it.  I tried James Lloyd's site as well and got the same warning.  Interesting how spiritual warfare can be played on any battlefield, but we know who wins.

In this electronic age, hard copy may end up being the most secure means of communication in the end.

Greetings!

Happy Day of Trumpets! ...BUT, which day is it?

Last week, I left you with a thought from the red words,"...but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved." (Matthew 9:17)

The new wine of revelation and relationship cannot be contained in the old understanding of religion. As great as the lives and actions of the prophets may have been... as deeply spiritual as the Law may have been to read and understand by the dedicated Scribes of old, it cannot contain the new wine without bursting and overflowing.

Revelation can only be contained in a new wineskin - a wineskin never before seen - the regenerated heart of man!

However, we must also understand that BOTH are to be "preserved." It was best said by Messiah Himself, "... Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old." (Matthew 13:52)

The example of the Day of Trumpets will serve well to help us understand - we are not to do away with the old holy days in deference to a "New Testament" ideal; but, we are to strive to apply our new understanding to this age-old day in the list of HIS moedim.

All of the major US TV networks announced, "Rosh HaShanah in 2010 will start on Wednesday night, the 8th of September and will continue for two days until Friday, the 10th of September..."  But, will it?

Maybe "Rosh Hashanah" will be celebrated in the Jewishreligion by some, but as for the Day of Trumpets... well, that's another thing entirely. Here's a thought - could Trumpets be the day which no man knows as stated in Matthew 24:36, "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only."

Who is Your Authority?

The confusion about the calendar comes down to this - authority. Okay, we know from the Scriptures that the Day of Trumpets is kept on the first day of seventh month. In the evening, we look out of our window to view the chodesh (the first crescent moon of the month) rightly perched over the setting sun...BUT, THERE WAS NO CRESCENT! Now, what do we do?

Is The Chodesh Important?

The chodesh is the renewed moon. It is named so to portray the idea of renewal. The average Believer teaching about the "New Covenant" prophesied in Jeremiah 31:31, ("Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a New Covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah...") does so from a frame of understanding that YHVH will make a  new covenant with His people.

This erroneous idea comes from a lack of understanding about what a covenant is. Primarily, a covenant (a promise) is FOREVER. A broken covenant is not renegotiated.  It is either broken and ends in disgrace OR it is RE-newed with fresh assurances of compliance from both parties.

There was nothing wrong with the old covenant - Jehovah had no interest in creating a new covenant.  His interest was to RE-new the covenant that had been broken by our non-compliance. His plan to redeem His people by faith, coupled with His design to cleanse us through the sacrifice of His Son, has always been sufficient to save us and make us into the people we should be.

This IS important! Jehovah didn't make a new covenant; rather, He RE-newed the same old covenant He had made with Abraham centuries before. This is the good news of the Gospel. Jesus (Yeshua) came to make changes within the hearts of men. He "... made us meet (able) to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints..." (Colossians 1:12)

Let's take a look at another word.  The idea in the word "chadash" {khaw-dawsh'} is that of a RE-newal of something already in existence. It means to refresh, or to make the same new again.   Notice the similarity in the words "chadash" and "chodesh". These words are also related in definition.

The chodesh is a RE-newal of the same moon. We are not given a different new moon each month.  Rather, the same old moon makes its reappearance of an old moon in the sky. It comes and it grows.  Then, as the month progresses, it becomes smaller and smaller until it finally becomes invisible to the human eye again. It remains invisible for several days, until it renews and comes back into view again! The initial sighting of this renewed moon is the chodesh, and it appears at the beginning of each new month.

"This month
(chodesh = crescent) shall be unto you the beginning of months..." (Exodus 12:2)

However, if the first day of the month is determined by the sighting of the crescent, why would the first day of this month be established in any other manner? In the words of Tevia in the film Fiddler on the Roof, it's "TRADITION!"

It is a Matter of Authority

It comes down to a matter of authority. We have been discussing the Law, and more recently, the Feasts.  Shouldn't it be the Lawgiver Himself who dictates when the days should begin and end (think about the Sabbath Day!)  It must be the Lawgiver who gives the rules for beginning and ending the months and years; and, of course, it should NOT be the rabbis who dictate when to keep the Feasts of YHVH!

You see, there are a lot of people who do not trust their relationship with their God. Jehovah gave His people a calendar to live by; but, the pagan churches made their own calendarsAND SO DID THE JEWS!

The Jewish calendar is very close to correct; but, it insidiously wrenches the authority from the God who gave it to them and places the authority, into the hands of men!
The Catholic, or Gregorian, calendar is not
so insidious.

What? The Catholics are more honest? Well, at least they have the honesty to make the statement that they do not care what the Scriptures have to say and have changed the calendar because they, "...have the power and authority to do so!"

On the other hand, the Jewish idea is more deceptive. They claim to be following the Scriptures, but ... they are NOT! Jehovah never instructed them to calculate their own calendar (not even because they were in captivity in Babylon) but they did it anyway!

The religious leadership decided that we do not have the right or privilege to make the determination of days and months and years. So, THEY will do it for us (sound familiar?); but this goes against all reason. The calendar was not given to the priests or governmental councils - it was given to US!

For years, the calendar was perfectly understandable by any average farmer in Israel. They simply looked upwards and watched the progression of the moon! They did not need mathematical know-how, highly capable computers, or a team of men in order to know the times and seasons or the moedim (appointed times) of the year. The calendar was always there in the sky - and it remains there to this day!

Why would YHVH give us an appointment, hold us accountable for keeping His days, and then make us dependent upon sinful men to tell us when these days were?

So, what are we to do? Are we to trust the Scriptures, trust our God to communicate with us?  Are we to believe that His intention is for us to live by the rules of men rather than His commands?

Of course, it would be simpler. Why can't we all just get along, get together for the sake of "unity" and keep the same calendars?
It is a matter of AUTHORITY!

WHAT HAS THIS TO DO WITH THE DAY OF TRUMPETS?

Jesus said, "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only." (Matthew 24:36)

The Catholic Church cannot tell us the day. The Jewish leadership cannot tell us the day. NO MAN can tell us the day. How plainly does it have to be written? Only the Father can tell us, and He HAS told us how to find the Day of Trumpets! (Yom Teruah)

THE LAST TERUAH!

In these last days we will see what no one has ever before seen. It is very likely that we will see the "Day of the LORD" and will hear the "...last trump (teruah)!"

It's not difficult!

What are we looking for?
A DAY!

What are we listening for?
The LAST TRUMP!

Has it occurred to you yet? It will be the DAY OF TRUMPETS!

Jesus said there is a day approaching that "...no man knoweth." Wouldn't it be a shame that no man knows simply because no man bothered to obey His written instructions?

If you are looking for a day, if you are listening for that last trump, doesn't it make sense to use the calendar that Jehovah gave for that very purpose?
Fondly and Friendly,
