August 2011 Dear Piedmont Alumni and Friends, Greetings! I am delighted to now be officially a part of Piedmont College. It has been a whirlwind of activity as I begin to meet faculty, staff, alumni and friends. The Piedmont community has welcomed me and my wife, Elizabeth, and sons Clark, Jake and Luke, with open arms. I am especially pleased to let you know that progress at Piedmont continues with many programs, activities, and projects. Some of these are as follows: - The renovation of the historic 1916 building in downtown Demorest continues. We expect the Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art to open in the fall of 2011. Grading is under way for the construction of an art instructional building located next to the Martens Center.
- The R.H. Daniel School of Nursing has expanded by offering a bachelor of science in nursing degree program on the Athens Campus. To facilitate instruction, the second floor of Lane Hall in Athens has been renovated to simulate a hospital ward.
- Walker School of Business students brought home first place in an international business problem solving contest.
- North Georgia Theatre of Piedmont College, a new summer stock organization, has just finished its inaugural season at the Swanson Center in Demorest.
- New initiatives next year include updating the strategic plan (including the facilities master plan), a study of new program offerings, marketing and promotion plans, long-term financial planning models and strategies, as well as a number of other endeavors.
I invite you to visit campus soon, keep up with news on the Piedmont website (www.piedmont.edu), and spread the good news about Piedmont and the programs of excellence we offer. I look forward to carrying on the tradition of excellence at Piedmont College and look forward to meeting you personally. Sincerely, Danny P. Hollingsworth |
