Three Reasons to Participate in WOW! Rewards
1. Preventive care (such as physical exams, blood pressure and cholesterol checks) can help you monitor the impact of lifestyle changes. Preventive screenings (such as mammograms or colonoscopies) can detect illness or health risks early. Appropriate preventive care can help avoid more serious and costly care in the future.
2. Our health plan pays 100 percent of preventive screenings appropriate for your age/gender (e.g., mammogram, colonoscopy).
3. Save $10 biweekly/$260 annually on next year's health insurance premium. If you participated last year, you will maintain your savings by participating again. If you have never participated in WOW! Rewards, you will start saving in January 2011. Our health insurance contributions will increase substantially in 2011 and these savings will help to offset the increase. |

Mobile Farmstand a Success at MMC & NorDx
In July, Jordan's Farm of Cape Elizabeth started delivering fresh produce from their farm and other local goods with their mobile (bus) farmstand to the Scarborough Campus for NorDx, MMC and Maine Medical Partners employees on each Monday and Wednesday and the MMC Bramhall Campus on Tuesday and Friday.
The mobile farm stand has been a huge success for the employees and community members of these organizations. It's convenient and the food is local. MMC and NorDx's WOW! Councils each coordinated this opportunity for their employees and promoted the opportunity for employees to prepurchase Community Supported Agriculture shares from Jordan's Farm and be able to be reimbursed up to $50 through the WOW! Rebate program.
The mobile farmstand will be available until the end of October - beginning of November. Enjoy! |
Stride With Pride at Waldo County Healthcare
During the month of July Waldo County Healthcare rolled out a four week physical activity program for their employees called Stride with Pride.
Employees were given a log to record the miles they traveled during activities such as walking, running and bicylicing. For visual appeal and to create friendly competition the Waldo WOW! Council created a track with participants names on sneakers. As participants racked up the miles they could move their sneaker along the track. In total over 70 employees signed up to participate and 52 completed the four week program. 2,775 miles were traveled. |
| Dr. Lisa's Happy, Healthy Wellness ABCs | | Dr. Lisa's Wellness ABCs for August focuses on National Immunization Awareness Month.
Awareness: According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, "Vaccine-preventable disease levels are at or near record lows" because most infants and toddlers have been appropriately immunized by the age of two.
Being: Although diseases such as polio and pertussis (whooping cough) are now rare, illnesses such as hepatitis, influenza, tetanus and measles still have the potential to cause harm in children and adults.
Care: MaineHealth employees (and families) enrolled in the health plan are eligible for all of the above vaccinations at no cost. To learn more, visit www.mainehealth.org/wow.
