| Superhero Spotlight ~ Donna McGrew, MMC |
|
Donna McGrew from MMC is one of WOW!'s 2009 Superheroes.
As a long-time MMC employee, Donna has gained both personal and clinical perspective around multiple sclerosis, cystic fibrosis and other diseases. She has been a member of the MaineHealth Freewheelers team in four Trek Across Maine rides and raised $2,000 each year for the American Lung Association. All of her Trek rides have been in memory of a very special MMC patient Donna met while working evenings on Pediatrics. Unfortunately, the patient lost her life to cystic fibrosis at the age of 16.
For the first time this summer, Donna participated in the MS Bike to Breakwater in honor of her younger sister, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in July, 2008. She was one of the top 100 fundraisers [#35] and was able to enjoy the experience with her sister who volunteered on both days of the ride. These cycling events are a great way for Donna to stay fit and raise funds for the organizations she passionately supports. She plans to continue to participate in both the MS and ALA rides until her grandchildren get old enough to ride with her!
For Donna, being active is a stress-reliever, a way to meet new people, and most importantly, challenges her to stay in great shape. If you are interested in participating in these exciting rides contact MaineHealth WOW!. They will make you feel like a SUPERHERO! |
