Dr. Lisa's Happy, Healthy Wellness ABCs
Did you know that a cruciferous veggie a day
could help keep breast cancer away?

ribbonThese cancer-preventive foods include broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, bok choy and many others. Read more in Dr. Lisa's Healthy, Happy Wellness ABCs for October, which focuses on National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Speaking of cruciferous, October's feature recipe is braised bok choy with pattypan squash. Bok choy, also called Chinese cabbage, pairs nicely with locally available pattypan or summer squash. This recipe debuted at the first session of the MaineHealth Learning Resource Center's  "Greens, Beans and Grain" cooking class series.

This October, learn your Breast Cancer ABCs and think cruciferous, WOW! Fans!

HopeCommunity supported agriculture (CSA) shares are now eligible for a $50 rebate per rebate period. Community supported agriculture is a way for consumers to buy local food directly from a farmer. Find a CSA near you at www.mofga.org.

All gym memberships now require proof of participation. Effective October 1, 2009, you must show proof of participation at the gym (50 times during a six-month rebate period) in order to receive a rebate.
