Orlando Stay-cation

Central Florida residents
know that millions of tourists swarm our area every year, especially in the
summer months and during major holidays. Unless pressed into service by guests
of our own, we tend to avoid the theme parks and other attractions, rather than
battle our way through the hordes of out-of-towners. So when do we get to enjoy
the fun of our own hometown?
Right now is a good time! The weather has begun to turn
cooler, but isn't 'Florida
cold' yet. The Labor Day 'last hurrah' has abated and those with school age
children are back home getting into that old routine. Many of the theme parks,
hotels, and golf courses have reduced their prices or instituted special deals
for Florida
residents. Plus, you don't have to add the cost and hassle of air travel or
even driving to your fun.
Crowds tend to be thinnest right
now until the week before Thanksgiving, as well as the week after Thanksgiving
until mid-December and the six weeks before and after school spring vacations
(which generally occur around Easter). Our occasional rainy periods (and cold
snaps) don't have to dampen theme park fun either. Crowds are even scarcer on
these days, and there are plenty of indoor attractions. Epcot, Disney's
Hollywood Studios, and Universal Studios Florida in particular have a lot of
great shows and rides inside. Discounts
and benefits for Florida residents are
available from Walt
Disney World, Universal,
Sea World, and Busch Gardens.
If you're interested in natural
beauty and wildlife, there are lots of possibilities, just a short drive from
home. You can canoe and see manatees up close at Blue Spring State Park
and Wekiwa Springs
State Park. You can also view rescued manatees and many other native
species at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park and a plethora of native and non-native species at Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens. Over at Canaveral National Seashore Canaveral National Seashore there are several walking and
driving trails laid out to showcase native and migratory birds and, yes again,
manatees - maybe a dolphin, too! Right here in Orlando we have, one such spot
of natural beauty, the Harry P. Leu Gardens
showcasing more than fifty acres of
immaculately maintained flowers, plants, and trees.
Our hometown also abounds in cultural activities. In addition to the Orlando Science Center, we have the Orlando Museum
of Art with American art from pre-historic times to the
present and the Mennello Museum of American Folk Art. The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum exhibits the
stained-glass works of Louis Comfort Tiffany. The lively arts are represented
by the Orlando Repertory Theatre,
the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Orlando Shakespeare Theater, as well as numerous other professional and
amateur performing arts organizations.
All-in-all, you can have a fun-filled and stimulating
vacation right and still sleep in your own bed every night. So make your plans
now for the best stay-cation you've ever had!

Restyle
for That New Look
|

Want a new look for your
living room, dining room or bedroom? You probably already have everything you
need for a beautiful home. Restyling (also known as 'Interior Redesign') uses furniture
and accessories you already own to get a new look without spending a lot of
money on new stuff. Your own furniture, artwork and accessories can
be re-purposed in a very short time. Restyling uses principals of interior design - function,
balance, proportion, scale, harmony - to create home decor you'll be thrilled
with.
Restyling works within a
limited budget because there's no need to purchase much. In most cases,
you have pretty much everything you need. With a minor investment, using your
own furnishings, you can save thousands of redecorating dollars and create a
totally new look by re-purposing your home's decor and space plan in a more
functional and effective way.
By using things you have in
a more functional and effective way, it's amazing what a big change you can
accomplish. If you're "organizationally challenged," restyling can
decoratively organize everyday and seasonal
items so they're hidden away, but easily accessible, all without purchasing a
single piece of furniture.
The first step in the
Interior Restyling process is to identify the look you want with the help of an on-site restyle
consultation. Then you and your consultant can tour your home
to assess your possessions and determine the best options to
meet your design objectives and budget.
Start with a complimentary
room restyling consultation from AYS
and you're on your way!
